A citizens committee formed to study the future of Century II and performing arts in Wichita recommended a new venue be constructed near the current building. The committee estimates the cost of a new state-of-the-art facility would be about $155 million. The committe did not make a recommendation regarding the future of the Century II building. The committee suggested a spring 2020 voter referendum to find public financing. The recommended next step is to gather proposals to determine a site.
Honeywell Aerospace announced last month that it is closing its Wichita facility and consolidating its operations to Olathe . The company will close its Wichita operation by the end of this year. Honeywell occupies a 275,000-square-foot facility at 7227 W. Harry St. near the airport. About 175 Wichita employees will be affected.
