Then scroll through the webpage to see a complete list of programs available for the program area. When you see the certificate or degree program you are interested in, click on + Certificate Requirements (or + Degree Requirements) to see the complete list of classes you need to take for that degree or certificate.

This flipbook lists the different certificate and degree programs for each of the four Los Rios Community College’s websites. When you click a link, you’ll be taken to the main webpage for that program.

All program webpages include Program Maps , which you can find by scrolling down to the “Program Maps” section (FYI… these are called “Roadmaps” at American River College). A program map shows you all the classes you’ll need to take to earn a specific certificate or degree . From there, just click on the program you want to explore and to see the details.

When looking at the Certificate Road Map, pay attention to the following notes: • Prerequisite: A prerequisite is a class you must complete before taking another class to show you’re ready for it. For example, to take ENGWR 301, you first need to pass ENGL C1000 (formerly ENGWR 300) with a grade of “C” or better. • Corequisite: A corequisite is a class you are required to take at the same time as another class, or before it. For example, if you sign up for GEOL 301 (Physical Geology Laboratory), you also need to take GEOL 300 (Physical Geology) either during the same semester or before GEOL 301. • Advisory: An advisory is a recommendation for a class or skill you should have before or while taking another course. It’s not required, but it’s suggested to help you be more successful in the class. Read through the entire Program Map including scheduling notes, advising notes, and career options. Make sure to confirm with your academic counselor the courses you would like to take and when. Need Help? Occupation

An occupation is a group of jobs that involve doing similar work and using similar skills. For example, if people do the same kind of tasks, they are part of the same occupation—even if they work for different types of businesses. Some occupations are mostly found in just a few industries, while others can be found in many different ones. A job is a specific position where someone works and gets paid. It can be full-time or part-time—both count the same. Jobs can be for people who work for a company or for themselves. When jobs are counted in labor market data, the numbers usually show the average for the whole year.

Median Hourly Earnings

Median hourly earnings show what a “typical” worker earns per hour in a job. If you lined up all the workers' wages from lowest to highest, the median is the amount right in the middle. That means half of the workers earn less than that amount, and half earn more. It helps you understand what most people in that career usually make per hour. Median annual salary is the middle amount of money people earn in a year. If you lined up all the yearly salaries from lowest to highest, the median would be the one right in the center. This means half of the workers make less than that amount, and half make more. It helps show what most people in a job usually earn each year.

Building and Construction Trades Apprenticeships at American River College At American River College (ARC), students can kickstart their careers through exciting apprenticeship programs built in partnership with local industries. An apprenticeship is a unique way to learn because it combines three things at once: a paid job, hands-on training, and classroom instruction. Most programs last anywhere from one to five years and are designed to help students build real skills while earning a paycheck. Even better, students can also earn college credits that count toward a certificate or associate degree at ARC. These programs are made possible through collaboration between employers, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Division of Apprenticeship Standards, and ARC. To join, students must be officially registered as apprentices. If you want to learn more about how to get started, you can connect with the local trade union that sponsors the apprenticeship program or reach out directly to ARC’s Dean of Technical Education Office for guidance.

The Business and Finance sector prepares students with skills that are in high demand across almost every industry. Students begin by learning the basics of business principles and practices, then explore specialized areas like accounting, banking, investing, and international trade. Pathways in this sector cover important topics such as computer applications, taxes, investments, asset management, and business management. These skills open the door to a wide range of careers—not only in business and finance, but also in nearly every type of organization, since all businesses need strong financial and management support. By gaining this knowledge, students set themselves up for success in college, specialized training, or direct entry into careers where their business and financial skills are highly valued. Business and Finance Apprenticeships at American River College At American River College (ARC), students can launch their careers through exciting apprenticeship programs created with local industries. Apprenticeships are a great way to learn because they give you three benefits at once: a paid job, hands-on training, and college classes. One example is the Financial Services Apprenticeship program. This program prepares students for careers like tax examiners, collectors, revenue agents, accountants, and auditors—important jobs that help manage money, taxes, and business finances. As an apprentice, you’ll get real-world work experience while also completing specialized classroom instruction that meets official state standards. By finishing the program, students not only gain valuable work experience but also earn credentials that open the door to long-term career success in the financial industry. If you’re interested, you can reach out to ARC’s Dean of Technical Education Office to learn how to get started. Business and Finance
