The Business and Finance sector prepares students with skills that are in high demand across almost every industry. Students begin by learning the basics of business principles and practices, then explore specialized areas like accounting, banking, investing, and international trade. Pathways in this sector cover important topics such as computer applications, taxes, investments, asset management, and business management. These skills open the door to a wide range of careers—not only in business and finance, but also in nearly every type of organization, since all businesses need strong financial and management support. By gaining this knowledge, students set themselves up for success in college, specialized training, or direct entry into careers where their business and financial skills are highly valued. Business and Finance Apprenticeships at American River College At American River College (ARC), students can launch their careers through exciting apprenticeship programs created with local industries. Apprenticeships are a great way to learn because they give you three benefits at once: a paid job, hands-on training, and college classes. One example is the Financial Services Apprenticeship program. This program prepares students for careers like tax examiners, collectors, revenue agents, accountants, and auditors—important jobs that help manage money, taxes, and business finances. As an apprentice, you’ll get real-world work experience while also completing specialized classroom instruction that meets official state standards. By finishing the program, students not only gain valuable work experience but also earn credentials that open the door to long-term career success in the financial industry. If you’re interested, you can reach out to ARC’s Dean of Technical Education Office to learn how to get started. Business and Finance
