Behaviors As revealed while analyzing contributing factors for crashes, several behavior-related factors are associated with a higher number of or more severe crashes. In this section, each of those factors and the likelihood of them resulting in severe outcomes were presented.
Speeding
Figure 7 and Table 12 summarize speed-related crashes in which at least one driver was traveling above the speed limit or driving at an unsafe speed. Speeding-related crashes comprised 28.2% of all crashes and 35.8% of KSI crashes. This indicates that speeding is not only a leading contributing factor of crashes, with more than one out of every four crashes being speeding-related, but also tends to result in more severe outcomes: one out of every three KSI crashes were speeding-related.
