Figure 16 and Table 21 present the same information for VRU crashes. Compared to crashes for all modes, VRU crashes mostly occur on lower-speed limit roadways, with nearly 70% occurring on roadways with a speed limit of 40 mph or less. This is expected since walking and biking happen mostly on lower-speed roadways. Although roadways with a speed limit of 30 mph or less have the highest share of VRU crashes (41%), they account for only 20% of VRU KSI crashes. Neither of these shares is overrepresented compared to these roadways’ share of roadway lane miles. Roadways with a speed limit above 50 mph, despite carrying a small portion of all VRU crashes, represent over a quarter of VRU KSI crashes. Roadways with a speed limit of 35 or higher are overrepresented in VRU KSI crashes.
