When cross-checking the distribution of KSI crashes against time of day and day of the week ( Table 31 for crashes across all modes and Table 32 for VRU crashes), more KSI crashes across all modes occurred during between late afternoon and late night, and slightly more of these crashes happened between Friday and Monday.

The distribution shows that severe daytime crashes (morning through early evening) most often occurred during the week, while severe evening and late-night crashes most often occurred over the weekend. Analysis of KSI crashes involving VRU underscores this pattern. Most severe crashes occur between early morning and afternoon in the first half of the week but switch in the latter half of the week to occur between late afternoon and late night. Severe late-night crashes occurred much more often over the weekend; only one-third of all late night KSI crashes occurred during the first four days of the week.
