any of us think “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Well, when it

or topcoat, is applied to the proper coating thickness. Now you have a completed job, right? Well…yes & no. The initial painting is finished, but it’s also the time you should start thinking about when you are going to repaint. Repaint? Already? Absolutely!! And here’s why… If you wait to repaint un- til the paint job looks bad it will cost you more in several ways: 1) Your repaint cost may be higher due to additional prep time needed prior to recoating

the surface. 2) There may be longer down time to complete the work because of additional prepara- tion and more coats required 3) The length of your paint cycle could be cut because the primer and first finish coats have been allowed to be com- promised due to the extended period of weathering between repaints. 4) Your facilities curb appeal suffers. What we suggest is imple- menting a comprehensive repaint cycle program as early

as possible once the facility has been constructed. This program should have several key points: • You need to know what your repaint specification, and products are going to be. • You need a repaint sched- ule timeline (repaint every 4 to 5 years whether it appears to need it or not) • You should have a set price for your repaints for at least the next cycle. • You should have a war- ranty from the manufacturer for the entire cycle, so you are always covered under a

warranty!! By doing this you will have a good idea what your paint cost are going to be forever!! Repaint cycle agreements are something that can be very beneficial to both the build- ing owner and the painter, because your jobs are always under warranty by the manu- facturer, you can have a long term agreement up to 10 years with some coating sys- tems. In many cases painting contractor(s) would be willing to set up long term pricing so you know what to budget for. The end result would be you are going out to bid much less, which creates a good long term relationship and best of all your facilities always look great! Obviously the painting contractor likes the idea be- cause they can count on that work for the entire term of the agreement making themmore likely to be sure the pricing is very competitive, and your painter will be sure that you get an excellent job every time since so much is at stake!!
