WHAT HAPPENED?

BOOM TRUCK OPERATOR HAND INJURY

After completingthe lifting operation forshutter installation, the boom truck operator remained within the work zone during the mold closure process. The operator rested his right hand on the mold, and at this time, a colleague positioned on the opposite side of the formwork released a mold support beam. The beam struck the operator’s right index finger, resulting in a minor laceration and a fracture. The injured person (IP) had joined the project on August 15th, 2025 , just over a month prior to the incident.

REMEMBER

Newly hired employees, motivated by enthusiasm and a desire to demonstrate their capabilities, may take on tasks they have not been adequately trained for. It should be continually reinforced that wearing appropriate gloves is required for all types of work activities performed on site. Following completion of each part of the work activity, all employees no longer part of the remaining work activities must move away from the work area. Ensure that the sequence of work activities is well planned and additional hand tools or equipment required are provided at start of work.

WHAT HAPPENED?

RIGHT THUMB INJURY WHILE INSTALLING PLASTIC HOSE COVERS Atthe rebar factory in Skopje, an employee sustained an injuryto his right thumb. The piling cage was not properly secured. While installing plastic tubes for φ 25 rebars, the employee was holding the cage with his left hand and attaching the plastic tube with his right hand. During the process, the unsecured cage rotated, causing his right thumb to become trapped. The employee was wearing gloves at the time of the incident. He was transported by a BEJV technician to Acibadem Sistina Hospital, where the medical team informed us that stitches would be applied. The employee was diagnosed with two fractures on right finger. Treatment has been provided in the related hospital to IP.

REMEMBER

Hands must never be placed in pinch-point areas. Always communicate before releasing any work component. Coordinate simultaneous work to prevent unexpected movements. The gloves used at the time of the accident were not impact- resistant; task-appropriate gloves must be used in all work areas. Chocks should always be placed under rolling objects to ensure their stability.
