New Studies Shed Light On Flexo’s Future BY GREG KISHBAUGH

Esko Launches New Cape Pack Prime

Esko has launched Cape Pack Prime, a new packaging-driven sustainability solution that is said to help packaging converters reach their own sustainability targets.

A host of year-end studies have been released that demonstrate flexo printings firm hold on the packaging and label industries, analyzing the ways in which these market segments will grow. The global Flexographic Printing Machine Market will grow from ap- proximately $2.89 billion in 2024 to $4.99 billion by 2033, according to new data from Strategic Revenue Insights. This performance implies a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of roughly 6.25 percent.

An extension to the Cape Pack software for packaging and logistics optimization, Cape Pack Prime is a cloud-based platform that uses real world product models to cal- culate optimized packaging and palletization solutions that drive down costs and help cus- tomers meet their sustainability KPIs, said the company. Value Chain Necessity “As climate change concerns intensify, sustainability is no longer a choice, but a ne- cessity across the packaging value chain,” said Esko Marketing Director Jan De Roeck. “Consumers are becoming increasingly envi- ronmentally conscious and exerting pressure on companies to adopt less impactful practic- es, while increasing regulations are applying pressure on brands to take more responsibili- ty for their broader environmental impact. “While both brands and their suppliers are under increasing pressure to deliver on packaging sustainability, packaging design and development is often undertaken in silos where components are created by different

The market’s 2024 valuation was anchored by stable demand from packaging converters and label manufacturers. Over the coming years, increasing adoption of automated and hybrid flexo-digital presses, broader use of flexible packaging, and shifting consumer goods demand are expected to drive growth pushing the market to the forecast level. Expansion of e-commerce and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors globally is accelerating need for flexible, cost-efficient packag- ing. Environmental and regulatory pressures including mandates for recyclable or water-based inks and substrates are encouraging invest- ment in newer flexographic machines that support sustainable printing practices. At the same time, trends toward shorter production runs and frequent packaging changes (for product variety, branding or promo- tions) are increasing demand for machines with fast changeover, mod- ularity, and automation features.
