TROWBRIDGE | Photography Robert Thornton Tulips & Sacred Egyptian Lotus
TROWBRIDGE | Photography
From Robert John Thornton’s Temple of Flora Collection, the artwork shows seven colourfully restored tulips. These bright colours set against the softly clouded sky, gives an almost dreamlike quality. These unique pieces were the first floral studies with landscape backgrounds, eluding to the natural habitat of the plant. The appearance of these flowers against the scenery is a modern presentation of something classical. This botanical Illustration depicts a pair of lotus flowers in bloom. In the background, tranquil and exotic setting can be seen. Taken from Robert John Thorntons Temple of Flora collection, this artwork showcases exquisite artistry of botanical study, celebrating the elegance and symbolism of the lotus. The Temple of Flora, has survived as one of the most beautiful botanical publications of modern times, with few originals surviving to this day.
