La Demoiselle De Numidie & L’oiseau Royal
The Demoiselle crane, the smallest of the crane species, is native to Eurasia and migrates to warmer India during the winter. With its elegant slate-grey plumage, striking white ear tufts and piercing red eyes, the bird exudes regal grace that has inspired poetry and art across history. The delicate synchronicity of the Demoiselle flock is like a ballet dance, while each bird has poise and feminine beauty. Known simply as the ‘royal bird’, the L’oiseau Royal stands proudly, as its gold coloured diadem of feathers act as the perfect crown. The slender neck and velvet-like plumage immediately caught the eye of European naturalists studying exotic species throughout the 1700’s. During a time of ornithological enlightenment, we can see how this splendid crane is full of striking presence and captivated those who caught a glimpse of it.
