The CIPP are pleased to announce our awards speaker,

Alistair McGowan Alistair McGowan has worked in almost every area of show business and the arts over his 27-year career. He is an impressionist, a standup comic, an actor, singer, and writer of sketches, articles, stage and radio plays – but is still probably best known to British audiences for ‘The Big Impression’ which was, for four years, one of BBC1’s top-rating comedy programmes, winning numerous awards, including a BAFTA. He also featured on ‘Bake Off For Comic Relief’, ‘Who Do You Think You Are’, ‘Mock The Week’, ‘Live At The Apollo’, is a ‘Pointless Celebrities’ winner, presents pieces on ‘The One Show’ and began his career by providing voices for the iconic ‘Spitting Image’.

How to win an Annual Excellence Award?

Now in it’s 15th year, the CIPP Excellence Awards are the longest running and only UK payroll awards. The awards were established to recognise and celebrate the important role that payroll, pensions and reward plays in the UK economy. To give yourself the best chance at winning an Annual Excellence Award, follow our tips below. Allow plenty of time to complete your nomination It takes time to put a nomination together so make sure you improve your chances by allowing plenty of time to do so and not leaving it until the last minute. Entries close on 10 August 2018.

outlined for the award. Describe to the judges how you have met the criteria, to allow them to score you highly. Keep your entry clear, concise and focused to stay within the word limit and to give your nomination the best chance of standing out to the judges. The winning nomination is, quite simply, the nomination with the highest score at the end of the process. Provide relevant evidence It’s easy to say that you do something, but the judges will be looking for evidence that you really do what you say. This is where most nominations lose marks. Everyone says they meet the criteria, but they do not back it up or they swamp the judges with irrelevant material. You can attach up to three supporting

documents in PDF files. Be sure that they add value to your nomination and avoid including unnecessary information for the judges to sift through to find your point. Stand out from the competition with a great summary statement Your summary statement should be concise and to the point. It should say “I should win because of x, y and z” and then direct the judge to where the information is contained within the nomination. Your summary statement should be the last part that you complete to make sure it summarises everything in your nomination. Remember, the Annual Excellence Awards get lots of nominations. Use your summary to stand out from the competition.

Focus on the criteria Make sure you meet each of the criteria
