Go Kings! by Paul Mylemans
The Komoka Kings made some changes before Christmas break. In the last game before the Christmas break, the Komoka Kings had some lineup changes. Justin Skirten, who was the team captain, was traded to the Strathroy Rockets in exchange for two local players. Joining the Kings are Ben Funston and Gavin Hern. Ben played 27 games this season with the Strathroy Rockets and Gavin in 17 games. They both played on the same Elgin Middlesex Canucks AAA U18 in 2023-2024 and have been teammates with the Canucks since 2021-2022. Also coming to the Kings is goaltender Zack Irvin, who was obtained from the St. Thomas Stars. Zack was also a member of the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs AAA U18 in 2023-2024. In their first game with the Kings, they were a welcome addition, but the team took a hard-fought 6-4 loss to the division-leading LaSalle Vipers. Some milestones before the Christmas break were Nathan Adams getting his first hat trick on December 18th in London versus the Nationals and Alexander Akena also getting his own first hat trick on December 21st versus the Vipers. The team and coaching staff are eager to start the new year with increased vigor and fighting to move up in the standings. Two Kings players have been selected to play in the GOJHL annual Top Prospects games on Friday, December 27th, at the Dan Snyder Memorial Arena in Elmira. Kings forward Kade McGeen, who is leading the Kings in points with 7 goals and 12 assists, is joined by defenseman Shane Neusteter for the games. Shane is one of 51 players in the games that are drafted by OHL teams. Another Komoka resident, Jimmy Sutherland, also plays in the Top Prospects games. Jimmy is playing with the GOJHL Elmira Sugar Kings and is a call-up to the OHL Guelph Storm, who selected Jimmy in the 2023 OHL Priority Draft. Komoka Kings home games are at the Komoka Wellness Centre. 1 Tunks Lane, Komoka.
