create beauty within and without of our beings. Remember that beauty is in the “eye” and also in the “I” of the beholder. Thank you, Janet – for sharing your talents and provoking us to dream with you through your art.

Janet Witmer’s Art Passion by Beth Moyer

Janet is a resident of Delaware and has a particular talent for creating art using a variety of mediums. Her favourite medium is watercolour, but she also uses markers, inks, and more recently, her camera. As a young adult, Janet realized painting was something that gave her joy and she has spent many years developing an eye for interesting subjects and exploring the abstract. Her career at CPRI allowed her to use her art therapy training with children as an adjunct to the behavioural work she provided. Once Janet retired, she held an art therapy self-expression class using multi-media at the Women’s Rural Resource Centre in Strathroy, again using creativity as a way for one to express and explore. Janet derives inspiration for her art from nature and from the time she spends on nature hikes. Her constant looking at detail in depth has allowed her to capture images that often turn into abstract art. The following images give us an example of the variety of her work and the pieces may leave one wondering what the image actually is. For example, the image of moss on a fallen tree found along a trail became an interesting abstract with a mural of complimentary colour. Another piece is a combination of vibrant yellow, blue, green and a touch of red. This image was created with alcohol inks. One can appreciate this piece for its colour alone, but I particularly like the fun and energetic feel it has. Janet prefers to work in a non-traditional format using experimental methods, but she also creates images that are traditional. For example, the mountain scene leaves us with no doubt that we are looking at a mountain range. I like the rather surprising colour of the sky. For the last several years Janet has spent much time outdoors traipsing through many forests and photographing what she sees along the way. This has brought her to another medium for expressing herself. The photograph of the bridge I particularly found inspiring. This image I see as a connection for us all as we journey along the road crossing the water, leaving the old year behind and moving into the new. I too am a lover of nature. Janet has inspired me to write poetry to go with her images resulting in two poetry books. We can
