Future Stars: Inspiring Young Athletes Through Soccer by Pamma Hubbert Local soccer enthusiasts Nick Taylor and Karsen Fuhrman are on a mission to make youth sports accessible, engaging, and impactful in their community. Co-founders of the Future Stars summer camp, the pair aim to instill a love for soccer in children aged five to twelve while fostering friendships and creating lifelong memories. “We both grew up in the Delaware and Kilworth area and played soccer competitively for much of our childhood and teenage years,” says Nick. “We thought it would be great to share our love for the sport with kids from in and around the neighbourhood.” Recognizing a gap in local summer camp options, Nick and Karsen established Future Stars to fill the void and provide a fun, supportive environment for young athletes. Since its inception, Future Stars has not only provided an outlet for skill development and camaraderie but has also given back to the community. Over the past three years, the camp has raised more than $2,200 for charities supporting youth sports. This year, the camp chose to donate to the Tyler Coleiro 873 Memorial Foundation (Tyco 873 Foundation), a decision deeply rooted in personal connection and shared values. The Tyco 873 Foundation, named in honour of Tyler Coleiro, works to keep kids involved in organized sports by offering financial assistance to families in need within Middlesex County. Tyler, who tragically passed away in 2019, was known for his passion for sports, particularly hockey, and his commitment to those around him. The foundation ensures Tyler’s legacy lives on by promoting sportsmanship and community involvement. “We chose to donate to the Tyco 873 Foundation this year as they invest locally in the lives of youth and families in need of financial support,” explains Nick. “On top of supporting our local community members, both Karsen and I grew up with Tyler and attended the same high school as him. Tyler was a good friend and teammate of mine, always being a friendly and supportive person to be around.” Looking ahead, Nick and Karsen have ambitious plans for the 2025 Future Stars camp, which will be held at Kilworth Park. “We plan to exceed our past performances and donation goals,” shares Nick. “We will continue to enrich the lives of local youth through our camps and our donations.” AlvegoRoot Theatre Trivia Night Manor Park Memorial Hall, 11 Briscoe Street For ticket information and to learn more about AlvegoRoot’s 2024 season, visit www.alvegoroottheatre.com What’s Happening at Landon Library Submitted by Ashleigh Hickey Cursive Writing (Ages 8+) January 20, 2024 10:30 am – noon (Registered)

Through their dedication to youth sports and community impact, Nick and Karsen are not only shaping the next generation of soccer stars but also ensuring the spirit of giving and connection remains at the heart of their mission. The Future Stars camp and the Tyco 873 Foundation stand as shining examples of how sport can bring communities together, creating lasting legacies both on and off the field.
