BIOLA Staff Visit Farm

After hearing that Mr. and Mrs. Henry Arjes of Canby, Oregon asked the Lord how th~y might be able to give to the missionary work of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles our BIOLA staff paid a visit to their lovely well cared for farm. Here, it was learned how the Arjes' sold two cows in a remarkable way and through the years have sponsored more than twenty students in training for missionary service. While on the farm, Radio Director, Al Sanders lined up in front of some of the pure-bred Jersey cows, Dr. Samuel H. Sutherland, BIOLA President; Mrs. Arjes; Dr. Louis Talbot, Chancellor of the Bible Institute; Mr. Eugene Poole, BIOLA's Field Director; and farmer Arjes himself. Their story will be recounted on an October Broad– cast of the Bible Institute Hour with a special interview right from the farm buildings. Two new programs soon to be ready for distribution are "Crossroads of Destiny", a thrilling dramatic por– trayal of the conversion of Christian leaders, and "Harvest of Harmony" a fifteen minute musical program inter– spersed with inspiring Christian poetry. If you know of stations that should be using these ex– cellent Christian programs, please let us know and WE' will contact them with audition recordings. Pray that many will find Christ through these new programs. Designed to take listeners on a systematic study through the Bible, Dr. J. "We need ot leost one missionary to take the gospel to an Island of more than one-hundred tha11sand people who hove never before heard the gospel," o missionory from So11th America recently told me. "Why not just take anyone, 11 some of you might say. To this, the missionary would reply; "We can use only a well-trained servant of God who knows and loves the Ward." This was a great personal challenge to me," yet it's on experience which is magnified almost daily as we tolk with returning missionaries and also read their heart-gripping letters from the field. Through your generous sacrificial gifts to the Bible Institute Hour, you are helping us to train these young people. Yet, there is much more that needs to be done. This year we have a record attendance, and ask that you daily remember these young people that as they listen ta the Word of Life they may be challenged ta ga to the ends of the Earth with the gospel of Christ which alone can liberate heathen hearts. Our Lord said: "Say not ye there are yet four months, and then cometh harvest~ Behold I say unto yo11, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; far they / J/ ,..,/. _ / _/ IJ are white alrecidy to harvest." ~ IT'S COMING Our new 1954 BIOLA Calendar will soon be off the press. Combining a missionary and prayer theme, this calendar offers you one of the most beautiful and distinctive pieces of art work ever designed. You'll be proud to give copies of it to your friends. The missionory spirit is not something that you have to get, but rather something that gets you.

A MOTHER'S PRAYER I wash the dirt from little feet, and as I ·wash, I pray: "Lord, keep them ever pure and true to walk the narrow way." I wash the dir t from little hands. and earnestly I ask: "Lord, may they ever yielded be to do the humblest task." I wash the dirt from little knees. and pray: "Lord, may they be the place where victories are won and orde1·s sought from Thee." I scrnb the clothes that soil so soon. and pray: "Lord, may her dress throughout eternal ages be Thy robe of righteousness." E'er many hours shall pass, I know I'll wash these> hands again, and there'll be dirt upon her dress before the day shall end. But as she journeys on through l ife and learns of wan t and pain, Lord keep her precious little heart cleansed from all sin and stain. For soap am! water cannot reach where Thou alone canst see. Her hands, and fee t, these I ran wash ... Bu t Lord, I trnst her heart ... to Thee! Remember, it's better to sleep over what you're going to do, than to be kept awake afterwards with what you' ve done. THREE GATES OF GOLD If you are tempted to reveal a tale someone to you has told about another, make it pass, before you speak, three gates of gold, three narrow gates. First. " Is it true?" T hen, "Is it needful?" In your mind give truthful answer, and the next is last and narrowest, "Is it kind?" And if to reach your lips at last it passes through these gateways three, then you may tell, nor ever fear what the result of speec!1 ma~ be. It is safer for a believer to lie down in peace, than to sit up and worry.

CHRISTIAN LOVE IS ... Silence when your words would hurt, It's patience when your nei ghbor's curt. It's deafness when the scandal flows, And thoughtfulness for another's woes. It's promptness when a stern duty calls, And it's courage when misfortune falls.

IT'S A FACT MORE THAN 20 MAJOR DENOMINATIONS ARE REPRESENTED IN OUR NEW STUDENT BODY ... BAPTISTS LEAD LIST OF YOUNG PEOPLE AT– TENDING ... STUDENTS REPRESENT EVERY STATE IN THE UNION AND FOREIGN COUNTRIES ... NEARLY 1,000,000 PEOPLE LISTEN EACH DAY TO THE BIBLE INSTITUTE HOUR . . .
