The tired old woman selling h er evening papers on th e corner am id the ru sh and confusion of th e day h ears th e old- old story whispered in h er ear and takes h e a rt to still go on. The boy caught . in th e act and quickly rushed to San Quentin for tw enty years w rites the g ratefu l message which tu rn s even prison life to helpful endurance w ith th e faith th a t changes things, as he looks up from behind the prison doors and sees Him who is invisible. The woman w ith darkened m ind drinking a t the muddy stream of sp irit ualism for seven long years has the scales removed and begins to see men as “ trees w alking” as she carefully pu t ting the little New T estam ent in her bag prom ises to stick close to th e book un til she can intelligently w arn and rescue others from th is terrib le strong delusion. The poor ddwn and out comes back to the F a th e r’s house w ith pen ite n t tears no t th is tim e to try to do better, bu t to tru s t Him who nas done His, best for us. And h ere again wV kneel a t th e close of a busy day around the old mission a lta r rail w ith ten poor, hum an wrecks, praying and yet won dering if they are hung ry for more th a n th e loaves and fishes, and how much they really touch of His g ar m en t’s hem. Then as we climb on th e car home- ward-bound th e re is the college lad whom we learn is ju st beginning to nibble a t Science, falsely so-called. The poison is carefully and prayerfully extracted and th e real Christ of Calvary sub stitu ted for th e “ divine principal,” and th e shadows fade away w ith the touch of faith pressing th e p rin t of the nail in His hand. Once again we see Jesus who was delivered for our offences and raised again for our justification. Then lastly th ere is always the con ductor and motorman ju st w aiting for a word fitly spoken in season. The seed sown, and to bed w ith a prayer backing it all up for th e glorious day

A Jew ’s Dying Message Though th e Spanish Influenza has g reatly in terfered w ith our visitation work among th e Jews, God has blessed our restricted efforts to reach them w ith the Gospel message. JEWISH One young Jew ish man WORK had been approached sev eral tim es in reg ard to his sp iritual welfare b u t like Gallio of old, i,t seemed “ he cared for none of those th ing s.” His paren ts had died when he was very young and h is religious edu cation had been very much neglected. He knew very little concerning Chris tia n ity and still less of Judaism . His lack of knowledge concerning th e religion of his F ath e rs made him more to le ran t of Christianity th an he m ight otherw ise have been. I t was difficult to get him to consider seriously, the claims of Christianity not because of antagonism tow ard its teachings b u t th rough indif ference and p rocrastination. The love of pleasure and self indulgence had fet tered his soul w ith chains of hab it whose tendency was hell-ward ra th e r th a n heaven-ward. At one time, when confronted w ith th e reappearance of Tuberculosis w ith which he had been afflicted, he seemed to give earnest heed to th e things of God, b u t when th e expected trouble did no t develop, he lapsed back into th e old ways again. The next we heard of th is young man was th a t he had been suddenly taken ill w ith Influenza-Pneumonia, had been' tak en to a H ospital for treatm en t, and was in a very serious condition.
