The boy caught . in th e act and quickly rushed to San Quentin for tw enty years w rites the g ratefu l message which tu rn s even prison life to helpful endurance w ith th e faith th a t changes things, as he looks up from behind the prison doors and sees Him who is invisible. The woman w ith darkened m ind drinking a t the muddy stream of sp irit ualism for seven long years has the scales removed and begins to see men as “ trees w alking” as she carefully pu t ting the little New T estam ent in her bag prom ises to stick close to th e book un til she can intelligently w arn and rescue others from th is terrib le strong delusion. He knew very little concerning Chris tia n ity and still less of Judaism . His lack of knowledge concerning th e religion of his F ath e rs made him more to le ran t of Christianity th an he m ight otherw ise have been. I t was difficult to get him to consider seriously, the claims of Christianity not because of antagonism tow ard its teachings b u t th rough indif ference and p rocrastination. The love of pleasure and self indulgence had fet tered his soul w ith chains of hab it whose tendency was hell-ward ra th e r th a n heaven-ward. At one time, when confronted w ith th e reappearance of Tuberculosis w ith which he had been afflicted, he seemed to give earnest heed to th e things of God, b u t when th e expected trouble did no t develop, he lapsed back into th e old ways again. The next we heard of th is young man was th a t he had been suddenly taken ill w ith Influenza-Pneumonia, had been' tak en to a H ospital for treatm en t, and was in a very serious condition.
