a t first by telling them of h er stand, and th a t fu rth e r more, God and his word were to he honored in h er home, and she would not p erm it jesting and ligh t talk ing about th e Bible in h er presence. She is stand ing tru e, and who knows how many of these people she will lead to her Saviour. MRS. T. C. HORTON, Supt. Are Catholics Christians? “F o r whosoever shall call upon th e nam e of th e Lord shall be saved. How th en shall they call on Him in whom they have no t believed? And how shall they believe in Him of SPANISH whom they have no t h eard? WORK And how shall th ey h ear w ithou t a p reach er?” Did you ever realize th a t th e people th a t we are called to labor am ongst do no t believe on Jesus, yes even though they are Catholics. U nfortunately many p ro testan ts class them as fellow- Christians. We wonder if any such ever tried to have Christian fellowship w ith a Catholic, th a t is, have a Bible study on sin, or idolatry, or God, and sing Gospel hymns and have a season of prayer. I t would be 'a good experience for a p ro testan t who believes th a t Cath olics are Christians, to try it ou t o n ce .> We wish it were possible for such to accompany th e w orker on one of his expeditions which is made every n igh t and twice on Sunday. Surely one n ig h t’s experience would prove to him th a t Catholics are no t Christians. Cath olics who have been train ed from infancy to believe in th e infallibility of th e Pope, in th e eflicacy of th e mediator- ship of th e V irgin Mary, as th e Mother of God, haven’t th e first idea of the work of Christ for th e salvation of the sinner. F o r instance, when we have given a simple Gospel message to the Mexicans and have asked for a decision to accept, we have found th a t th e only confidence was “ en la virgin purisim a la Madre de Dios,” (in th e virgin, th e
Mother of God). They ra th e r glory in it and th ink th e ir religion is so much superior to th e p ro testan t, because they are ta u g h t to believe th a t we do not believe in th e virgin. We make men tion of th is to show you how much need th e re is to preach Jesu s to th is people in o rd er th a t they m ight believe in Him and call upon Him. If*we are faith fu l and do no t fain t, and continue to preach, the entrance of H is word en lightens them . Our h ea rts have been rejoiced as we have seen th e progress of th e new babes in Christ. One young convert does not lose an opportunity to confess Christ to his form er friends and companions. J u s t recently he has been talk ing to a young lady about accepting Christ and she said, “Why, I can’t give up my religion,” and a t first would no t listen to him, b u t la ter she confessed th a t his life was different from hers and listened to th e Gospel, even asking for a New Testam ent, which she reads daily. Soon th is young lady consented to atten d a p ro testan t service, so last week th e con v ert brough t h er to a service held in a Mexican home and we are praying and hoping th a t she will soon make her decision for Christ. In ano th er place we hold a weekly cottage meeting in th e home of one of our believers, who h as been th e means of getting seven or eight fam ilies to attend meetings. So we see th a t once they are soundly converted they are not backward in confessing th e ir new-found joy to friends and neighbors. During th e holidays th rough the help of some friends, we were enabled to b ring cheer to several fam ilies in different railro ad camps, holding a little service With many who had gathered and th u s reach them w ith th e Gospel. We have a wonderful opportunity before us and are praying for an auto in o rder to reach the larg est possible number. The tim e is sh o rt and w hat we do we m ust do quickly, for Jesus is coming again. B. H. BENDER, Supt.
