th e ir sakes and told them they should show how th a n k fu l they felt by always and he remembered how th e fath e rs and loving and obeying God. Jo shu a was th ink ing of th e idol worshipping people who still lived in some p.arts of th e land, mothers of these people he was leading had once made a golden calf and wor shipped it, and he was w arning them for he knew people living th en were like people living now, doing th e things they see others do, like a p arro t. The people all answered Joshua, saying they would never leave th e Lord to serve idols. They said God had been so good to them in bringing them up out of the land of Egypt and placing them in th is beau tifu l land af Canaan, and they said they w anted Him (God) always to be th e ir God. Then Jo shu a took a big Stone and set it up under a tree th a t stood by th e Tabernacle. This stone Was rig h t where they could see it every tim e they came to th e Tabernacle, and Jo shu a said it was to help them remem ber the prom ise they had made to God, th a t they would always serve Him. Jo shu a spoke the words in our memory verse. T h at means, to be sure, th a t we really love God w ith all our h earts, and if we do we will do the things th a t are pleasing to His sight. A fter Jo shu a finished speaking th e people w ent away to th e ir homes. I have been thinking how we can learn a lesson from Josh u a ’s w arning, n o t to do wrong things because we see others doing them . Boys know it is very w rong and h arm fu l to smoke, and yet they see big boys do it and they do the same. Girls go w ith o ther girls who do wrong things and th ey do th e same wrong things they see them do. Let us no t be parrots.
