RECOMMENDED ACTIONS

KEY STEPS Ensure that the BC Housing Executive and other departments support the decision. Seek a champion from within the department through a request for interest from within the department. Recruit an expert in diversity data collection, privacy, and data base management through a competitive process. Complete a review of existing data and information policies, processes, and standards within BC Housing (where and how is data collected, what does the information tell us). Identify gaps in data and create a Diversity Data Framework with principles, collection and use guidelines and data standards. Communicate this Framework within BC Housing and to partners for dialogue and input. Create accountability within BC Housing planning, budgeting and decision-making that aligns with this Framework.

Following the review of staff and board identity factors for recruitment and retention, adopt a standard of collecting information on diversity, equity, and inclusion factors, while at the same time ensuring that participants are given an option to ‘opt-out’ for privacy concerns.
