INTRODUCING DR. RAFAEL PEREIRA
Jacksonville Dental Specialists is proud to welcome Dr. Rafael Pereira, a specialist in Periodontics (U.S.) and Maxillofacial Surgery (Brazil), whose career spans more than two decades across both countries. To celebrate his arrival, Jacksonville Dental Specialists will host an in-office open house on Nov. 13 from 6–8 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Pereira, learn about his clinical expertise, and hear his vision for advancing periodontal care in the Jacksonville community. Dr. Pereira’s path to becoming an accomplished periodontist is marked by a deep commitment to excellence in clinical practice, research, and education. Originally from Brazil, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Brasília, one of the country’s most prestigious dental schools. His passion for surgical precision and patient care led him to pursue advanced residencies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Implant Dentistry, along with a master’s degree in dentistry. During his early academic years, Dr. Pereira distinguished himself as both a scholar and a teacher. He served as a university professor for more than 15 years, teaching Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at several institutions, including the Catholic University of Brasilia and the University Center of Patos de Minas, where he also held leadership positions such as program director and founding faculty member of the dental school. His academic contributions helped shape the next generation of dental professionals and advanced the standard of dental education in Brazil. Dr. Pereira’s pursuit of clinical and scientific excellence eventually brought him to the United States. He was initially invited to come to the country as a research scholar and later accepted into the highly competitive Periodontics graduate program at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, one of the world’s top dental institutions. There, he earned his Master of Science in Periodontics and completed advanced training under some of the most respected clinicians and researchers in the field. During his time at Michigan, he received multiple honors for his outstanding performance, including the Donald Kerr Scholarship, the Benson Duff Fellowship, and the Michigan Periodontal Association Award for Excellence in Soft Tissue Management and Esthetics. A prolific researcher and author, Dr. Pereira has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals and contributed chapters to academic textbooks in oral and maxillofacial surgery and implantology. His scholarly work covers a range of topics, including bone regeneration, implant therapy, oral pathology, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. His research continues to influence best practices in modern periodontics and implant dentistry worldwide. Beyond academia, Dr. Pereira has maintained clinical practice for over 20 years, offering expert care in periodontal therapy, full-mouth rehabilitation, bone and soft tissue regeneration, implant placement, and complex oral surgeries. He is
deeply committed to evidence-based dentistry and continually integrates the latest scientific advancements and technologies into his clinical protocols. Equally notable is Dr. Pereira’s commitment to community service. Throughout his career, he has volunteered his time and surgical expertise to underserved populations in Brazil. His spirit of compassion and service continues to guide his philosophy today. He believes that exceptional dentistry is not only about restoring smiles but also improving lives. Fluent in both English and Portuguese, Dr. Pereira bridges cultures through his dedication to patient education and cross-cultural communication. He believes that trust, empathy, and understanding are essential to the patient’s experience, and he strives to ensure that every individual he treats feels informed, comfortable, and confident in their care. As he joins Jacksonville Dental Specialists, Dr. Pereira brings his wealth of experience, academic rigor, and clinical artistry to Northeast Florida. His addition to the practice reinforces its mission to deliver world-class dental and surgical care through collaboration, innovation, and personalized treatment. Patients can look forward to advanced periodontal and implant procedures grounded in the latest research and performed with the utmost precision and care. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Pereira resides in the Jacksonville area with his wife, Dr. Patricia Pereira, who is also a dentist, and their daughter, Maria Clara. SWING INTO THE MOLAR CUP Every year, Jacksonville Dental Specialists and Advanced Dental Seminars proudly host The Molar Cup Tournament, one of the most anticipated events in the dental community. Now in its third year, this beloved annual tradition brings together dental professionals, colleagues, and sponsors for a day filled with camaraderie, competition, and fun on the legendary Players Stadium Course. involvement add excitement to every hole, and their commitment to advancing dentistry mirrors the spirit of excellence this tournament represents. Of course, every golfer loves a little friendly competition. This year’s awards include Closest to the Pin (Hole 17), Longest Drive (Hole 16), Closest to the Water (Hole 18), and the coveted title of Molar Cup Champion, with the winning team taking home the gleaming Molar Cup Trophy. After a fun-filled day on the fairways, participants will gather for an awards luncheon buffet featuring a complimentary open bar. It’s the perfect way to unwind, share stories from the course, and celebrate the day’s great shots, lucky bounces, and maybe even a water ball or two. Registration for this year’s Molar Cup is $1,300 per player, with an early registration rate of $750 available until Friday, Nov. 7. Spots fill up fast, and with an event this exciting, it’s easy to see why. The Molar Cup Tournament is a celebration of community, connection, and the shared passion that unites the dental profession. So, grab your clubs, bring your team, and join us on Nov. 15 for an unforgettable day where dentistry and golf come together for a truly winning experience.
The day begins with check-in, where players drop off their clubs and pick up their golf carts before heading to the range. A grab-n-go breakfast and fresh coffee will energize your morning as you warm up and get ready to hit the fairways. Your cart fees, green fees, forecaddie costs, gratuities, and practice balls are all included in your registration. Everything is taken care of so you can focus on what really matters: golf, friends, and fun. As teams make their way through the course, they’ll enjoy scenic views, great company, and an open bar golf cart service available for all 18 holes. Midway through the day, players can refuel with a delicious lunch from the ULTRA Turn (Halfway House), conveniently served via golf cart delivery on the green.
