we are burdened in our minds; . . . when we are ill-used, humiliated, despised, tram pled upon; when we are weary of the world and of ourselves; and then, when, instead of rebelling and raging and repining, we ac cept our lot as laid on us by God, and ac cording to His invitation take all our burden to Christ in prayer—that is the way to come to Him.— A lexander W h y te . Now there is a thread running through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and that is Christ; and if we look at the Bible at almost any part, we find traces of that thread. — W . H . He who praises God for mer cies shall never want a mercy for which to praise. To bless the Lord is never unsea sonable. Our thankfulness is not to be a dumb thing; it should be one of the daugh ters of music. Our tongue is our glory, and it ought to reveal the glory of God. What a blessed mouthful is God’s praise! How sweet, how purifying, how perfuming! — C h a rles H addon S purgeon . "As every man hath received the gi[t, even so minister . . . as good stewards o f the manifold grace o f God" (1 Pet. 4:10). The rich man, who is called in Scripture the rich fool, made great mistakes. His first mistake was in saying, “My fruits and my goods” (Lk. 11:18). He might easily have looked up, and said, "From Thee cometh every good and perfect gift; Thine they are, and lent to me.” But no; he made a ter rible mistake; he called them his. Have you learned to give thanks for all things unto God? Have you learned that even you are "not your own”?— E va T ravers . DECEMBER 11 Our Glorious Gospel "The light o f the glorious gospel o f Christ" (2 Cor. 4:4 ). Paul rejoiced in the gospel. Everything about it was “glorious”—glorious liberty (Rom. 8:21); Christ’s glorious body (Phil. 3:21); His glorious power (Col. 1:11); His glorious appearing (Titus 2:13); and a glo rious church (Eph. 5:27). And is there not something wrong with us if we cannot be enthusiastic over our salvation? Here we have a gospel which satisfies the deep est needs of mankind, going down to the deepest depths of sin, and reaching up to the highest heights of saintliness. Jesus Christ is a Saviour unto the uttermost. —L ife o f Faith. DECEMBER 10 Not Ours "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matt. 11:28). Now, just how do we come to Christ? W e come in this way: not on our feet, but on our knees. "Not on our feet,” says Augustine, "but on our affections." RUSSIANS IN ALASKA Péter Deyneka, Gen. Director, ju st returned from his missionary tour in Alaska where he broadcasted the Gospel in Russian and Eng lish languages over two radio stations. He found Russians scattered on the islands of Alaska with a great need for personal evangelism in the Russian and English languages. Won’t you earnestly pray, and help us to take the Gospel to these people who never heard the Gospel of grace? We desire to send a Russian-English speaking young man to Alaska as soon as you send in your gifts. Also, we must maintain the responsibility to support Russian m issionaries throughout the world among the Russians, including North America* Send your gifts to THE RUSSIAN GOSPEL ASSOCIATION, INC. 64 W est Randolph S t., D ept.
