THE EUROPEAN IMBROGLIO [Continued from page 369] The news sheets also are informing us that Russia, piqued because she was not invited to Munich, and because Czechoslo vakia was thrown to the wolves, has grown cold and breaks her friendship with France and England. Russia is being forced to one side, to act her lonely part exactly as she must according to Ezekiel 38 and 39. How ever, when the fatal hour arrives, Gomer (Ezek. 38:6), the German, will be glad to seek an ally in the cave of the famous “Bear.” It is to the east, and not to the south, that Hitler will have to look for help when "the day" arrives. Verily, verily, the stage is being set! Dictatorship Supreme "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name” (Rev. 13:16, 17). ”And the ten horns which thou saw- esf are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast” (Rev. 17:12, 13). These words can mean only that “the times of the Gentiles" shall close with all human government brought under the con trol of a vast totalitarian state. The might iest nations of Europe either have yielded utterly to totalitarianism, or they have cow ered before it. Hitler radios to the entire world that Germany is omnipotent because Germany is a “one-man” government. And, the statesmen in the world’s greatest de mocracies are confessing frankly that the iron of totalitarianism must more or less enter their own souls in order that they may survive. France gives “temporarily” dic tatorial power to Daladier. England let one man, Chamberlain, represent her at the council table to determine the issue of war or peace. And in the world’s greatest de mocracy, America, the desirability of one- man rule is at least being discussed. Glenn Frank candidly observes: "For some time now millions of Americans have been increasingly skep tical of the balanced representative government that has been the ideal of American democracy . . . Maybe de mocracy is not up to the job of manag ing a world operating on such a scale and at such a tempo, a world so com plicated as the world is today . . . There is something to this trend to ward centralized power . . . Liberty has to be seriously curtailed in the interest of security, if not survival. . . Millions have been impressed with the show of order, promptitude of action and effi ciency in dictated lands.” Is the hour at hand when, for the sake of security—for the sake of the survival of modern civilization—the harassed peo ples of earth “shall give their power and
