DISTRICT OFFICE Culturally Responsive- Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students' behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social-emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also enhances teacher health and well-being. PBIS is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable, and safe learning environments where everyone thrives. Culturally Responsive PBIS (CR-PBIS) extends this framework by integrating culturally relevant practices and responses. It emphasizes the importance of respecting and valuing students' diverse cultural backgrounds, ensuring that behavioral expectations and supports are equitable and meaningful for all students. By doing so, CR-PBIS helps create a more inclusive and responsive school climate, fostering a sense of belonging and respect that supports positive behavior and engagement. PBIS, including CR-PBIS, aligns with Barstow Unified School District’s goal of ensuring that each of our schools treats students fairly, equitably, maintains a safe environment, and fosters an atmosphere conducive to learning.
