Novolex To Acquire Shields Bag and Printing Company Novolex, a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group, has agreed to acquire certain assets and business op- erations of Shields Bag and Printing Co., a manufac- turer of custom engineered f lexible packaging products located in Yakima,Washington.Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. Shields Bag and Printing Company was founded in 1935. The Shields family expanded their founder’s commercial printing business into flexible packaging in the 1960s. Shields’ core focus is providing custom engineered products to a diverse group of customers across a range of end-market segments, including building and construction, food and consumer, bank- ing and security, lawn and garden, chemicals and en- ergy, and general industrial. The acquisition of the Shields’ assets and business is Novolex’s seventh acquisition since 2012. SGP Hosts Community Day To Drive Sustainable Printing The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership held its SGP Community Day on November 14 in Portland, Oregon.The event brought together print profession- als, brands and sustainability champions for conversa- tions on growing strategic programs and partnerships. The conference included presentations and discussions on procurement, circular economy and sustainability practices from leading companies. Jeremy Carroll, Co-Founder of Latitude, a brand and experience design firm, spoke to the group about his organization and its impact on their customers, sup- ply chain and the world. Pam Johnson, State Procurement Analyst for the State of Oregon, discussed green procurement on the state and federal level and provided insights on creat- ing a dialogue with procurement officials. Nicole Bassett, Co-Founder of The Renewal Work- shop, presented the story of her company and how the textile industry can become circular. Kim Holmes, VP of The Plastics Industry, discussed the “second life” of plastics and a new initiative which will focus on identifying the technical and economic feasibility of recovering plastics from dif- ferent industry sectors. Additionally, SGP hosted an exclusive evening event for print buyers and notable brands making strides within the sustainable print arena. Plans are underway for Community Day 2018, which is slated to be held on November 13 in Min- neapolis, Minnesota.
