Hawkesbury figure skaters shine at invitational
Skaters from the Hawkesbury Figure Skating Club shone at the 17th Port City
Invitational Competition, held on January 4, at the Anthony J. Crisafulli Rink in Os-
wego, NewYork. The five skaters attending this compe- tition brought back 17 medals altogether. They ended up getting the second highest amount of points for club results out of 14 clubs, placing the Hawkesbury Figure Skat- ing Club in second place overall. Victoria Nevers came back with a Gold medal for her first Solo program, at the Basic 2 level. Olivia Nevers brought back three Gold medals for Pre-Preliminary Spins, No Test Showcase and Preliminary Dance and two Silver medals for her Pre- Preliminary Solo, and No Test Interpretive as well as a Bronze medal for her Pre-Pre- liminary Jumps.

Naomie Pepin in turn has brought back a Gold medal for her Pre-Preliminary Solo, a Silver medal for her Pre-Preliminary Jumps and a Bronze medal for her Preliminary Dance. Madison Pepin, 3 years old, came back with a Silver medal for her first individual element competition in the Snow Plow Sam category. The next competition will be at the Morrisburg invi- tational on January 18. Olivia, Melodie and Naomie also brought back a Silver medal for their Preliminary Team Elements.

Le mécanisme des vélos n’a plus de secret pour les élèves de la 4e et 5e année de
l’École élémentaire Nouvel Horizon. Dans le cadre de leur cours de sciences sur les structures et les mécanismes, le mécanicien de vélo chez Intersport, Martin Bédard, leur a expliqué comment fonctionne un système d›engrenages et comment bien entretenir leur vélo. L’atelier portait aussi sur le changement de vitesses des vélos, afin de ne pas abîmer la chaîne, les plateaux et les pi- gnons.

C’est maintenant le temps de s’inscrire pour la 30 e édition du Tournoi de hockey industriel de Hawkesbury. Celui-ci aura lieu le 28 février et les 1 er et 2 mars prochain au complexe sportif Robert Hartley. Le tournoi s’adresse à tous les commerces, industries de même que les services publics de Prescott-Russell et des environs. Une division est aussi réservée aux femmes. Depuis 30 ans maintenant, le Tournoi industriel lance un appel aux amateurs de hockey de la région et des environs.
