Barstow High School Winter Formal
The Barstow High School Winter Formal is scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the Don Bilsborough Gym. The event will feature food, games, dancing and a picture booth. Tickets will be on sale Monday, December 8 through Thursday, December 11. Prices are $40 with ASB and $60 without.

Scott Godfrey, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for the Barstow Unified School District (BUSD), is focused on student achievement and supportive learning environments. Rebekah Michelson is the BUSD Title IX/Uniform Complaint Procedure (UCP) Officer and plays one of the most important roles in our school district: she is the dedicated person who makes sure every student and staff member is treated fairly and equally. Simply put, her job is to protect everyone from discrimination and harassment so that our schools are safe and welcoming places to learn and work. Think of the Title IX/UCP Officer as the district's official fairness and equity champion. They are there to answer questions, explain your rights, and guide students, parents, and staff through the formal process of reporting a serious issue. What is Title IX? Title IX is a federal law prohibiting sex-based discrimination in any school program or activity that receives federal funding. The Title IX Officer prevents and responds to sex-based discrimination and harassment, with main duties including: Gender Equality, Preventing Harassment, Investigating Complaints and Making changes.

What is the Uniform Complaint Procedure (UCP)? The UCP is the district's official way to handle formal complaints related to various issues, including discrimination (not just sex-based), certain educational programs (like Special Education), and requirements like having enough textbooks.

DECEMBER 2025 Page 5 AROUND THE DISTRICT Addressing your Questions and Concerns The Pathway to a Resolution BARSTOW UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Barstow Unified School District uses a four-step process to address questions and concerns from families. This process allows families to express themselves to the person or persons who can best assist them.
Please follow this process when providing your question or concern.
1. Contact the teacher or staff member. Most concerns can be resolved quickly and easily at the school level. Please keep in mind that teachers and staff are working to educate many students. Your patience is appreciated. Please allow up to 48 hours for a response Monday through Friday during school hours and at least 72 hours if contacting a teacher or staff member around or during a weekend or holiday. 2. Contact the School Principal. If you believe your communication with the teacher or staff member did not resolve your concern, please contact the school principal. Families may fill out a Williams Uniform Complaint Procedure form. Complaints can be filed anonymously. Anyone requesting a response to a complaint must provide their name and contact information and indicate a response is requested. 3. Contact the Superintendent’s office. If after talking with the teacher, staff member and the principal you feel your concern is unresolved, please contact the Superintendent’s office. The Superintendent and her staff are here to help resolve issues and ensure that families and schools are successfully partnering for student success. 4. In your conversation with the Superintendent, you may be directed to speak with the Board of Trustees to address a particular policy issue related to your concern. A list of scheduled meetings can be found on our website, busdk12.com, under the Board of Trustees tab. Using social media or contacting non-school district personnel delays our ability to respond to your concerns. We are here to assist you and that can only happen when we work directly with each other.
The District is required by law to follow strict guidelines regarding the privacy of any person or persons involved in an investigation.
Threats against students or staff, real or implied, are taken seriously and are not tolerated. Any person making such threats is subject to full prosecution under the law. The safety of our students and staff is a top priority of Barstow Unified School District. Please work directly with us to ensure that each of our schools treats students fairly, equitably, is safe and maintains an environment conducive to learning.

Aztecs Win 2nd Straight Undefeated DSL Title
The Barstow High School Cross Country teams competed in the Desert Sky League Finals on Thursday, November 6, at Horsemen Park in Apple Valley. Congratulations to Aileen Vargas and Aileen Hernandez for securing all-league honors! Both teams advanced to the CIF-SS Cross Country Finals at Mt. SAC on November 15.
The Barstow High School Aztecs defeated Adelanto 29-0 on Friday, October 31, to clinch the program’s second consecutive undefeated Desert Sky League title. The Aztecs piled up the points on offense and stifled all four of their league opponents. To win the league title, the Aztecs defeated Victor Valley, 21-7, in the 102nd Axe Game, beat Silverado, 24-17 and smashed Granite Hills, 50-24. The Aztecs defeated Serrano, 34-12, in the opening round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs to advance to the quarterfinals vs. La Canada High School.

Parent/Teacher Conferences Barstow Unified School District recognizes that December is a month filled with diverse and beautiful celebrations around the world. Here are some of the major holidays and cultural observances our families will celebrate this month:
HANUKKAH December 14 -21, 2025 (Jewish Festival of Lights): An eight-day celebration
CHRISTMAS December 25th (Christian): Celebrated on December 25th (and January 7th for some Orthodox Christians), this holiday commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. Cultural traditions vary widely but often include gift-giving, decorating Christmas trees, feasting, and attending religious services. Christmas Eve (December 24th) is also a very significant day in many countries. KWANZAA December 26, 2025 - January 1, 2026 (African-American and Pan-African): A seven-day cultural celebration from December 26th to January 1st that honors African heritage and culture. It focuses on the Nguzo Saba (Seven Principles) and includes lighting the Kinara (candle holder), drumming, music, and a large feast called a Karamu. NEW YEARS EVE December 31, 2025 Celebrated globally on December 31st, this marks the final day of the Gregorian calendar year. Celebrations often involve parties, fireworks, and customs intended to bring good luck in the coming year.

The Board is the elected representation for the community and sees that community interests are considered in decision-making for the schools. The board sees that the schools are well run by adopting fair and responsible policies and procedures that direct district operations. The board provides leadership on educational issues to the community. The Superintendent is the chief administrative officer for the district and manages day-to-day operations in the district and sees that board direction is implemented. The superintendent works with the board to facilitate effective governance and provides leadership on educational matters to the community and staff.

The BHS Esports program has flourished in just three years, growing from 13 students to a robust program of 78 students for the 2025/2026 school year, complete with a full-service Esports Lab. The Eztecs are highly successful, competing in six varsity games across California weekly and ranking among the most competitive programs in San Bernardino County. Recent top achievements include: #1 in the High Desert League for all competitions, #1 at the County event for Mario Kart, and 3rd Place at the County event for Super Smash Brothers.

DICIEMBRE DE 2025 Página 5 ALREDEDOR DEL DISTRITO Abordando sus Preguntas e Inquietudes–La Hoja de Ruta hacia una Resolución BARSTOW UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Barstow utiliza un proceso de cuatro pasos para abordar las preguntas e inquietudes de las familias. Este proceso permite a las familias expresarse ante la persona o personas que mejor pueden asistirlas.
