Parent/Teacher Conferences Barstow Unified School District recognizes that December is a month filled with diverse and beautiful celebrations around the world. Here are some of the major holidays and cultural observances our families will celebrate this month:
HANUKKAH December 14 -21, 2025 (Jewish Festival of Lights): An eight-day celebration
CHRISTMAS December 25th (Christian): Celebrated on December 25th (and January 7th for some Orthodox Christians), this holiday commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. Cultural traditions vary widely but often include gift-giving, decorating Christmas trees, feasting, and attending religious services. Christmas Eve (December 24th) is also a very significant day in many countries. KWANZAA December 26, 2025 - January 1, 2026 (African-American and Pan-African): A seven-day cultural celebration from December 26th to January 1st that honors African heritage and culture. It focuses on the Nguzo Saba (Seven Principles) and includes lighting the Kinara (candle holder), drumming, music, and a large feast called a Karamu. NEW YEARS EVE December 31, 2025 Celebrated globally on December 31st, this marks the final day of the Gregorian calendar year. Celebrations often involve parties, fireworks, and customs intended to bring good luck in the coming year.

WINTER SOLSTICE December 21st (Pagan/Neo-Pagan): Celebrated around December 21st (the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere), this ancient festival marks the return of the sun and the beginning of longer days. Traditions include burning a Yule log and feasting. December 16 - 24, 2025 A nine-day religious festival in Mexico and parts of Latin America that re-enacts Mary and Joseph's search for lodging in Bethlehem LAS POSADAS
