Giancarlo Guerrero and the Nashville Symphony
‘The Cornet Concerto by Brad Warnaar is a bold and highly original work… The performance is virtuosic and sparkling, featuring an exceptional Costa Rican soloist, José Sibaja… Higdon has said that working with brass players is great because these musicians often spread a contagious joy. You can hear that in her virtuosic and playful concerto, which is performed magnificently.’ – Pizzicato ‘Armed with the 3,568 pipes of the concert organ at Nashville’s Laura Turner Concert Hall, the excellent Paul Jacobs gives a delightful performance, vigorously supported by Giancarlo Guerrero’s brightly polished Nashville Symphony, stripped of woodwinds in Parker’s scoring – something that only makes the organ’s tones stand out with extra clarity.’ – BBC Music Magazine
‘The Nashville musicians meet the score’s [ My Father Knew Charles Ives ] many demands head-on, including the challenging if highly idiomatic wind parts, achieving an atmospheric soundscape both poignant and exhilarating… Both the pairing of these two particular works and their singular performances make this a welcome addition to any Adams collection.’ – Gramophone
‘Giancarlo Guerrero is an able accompanist, and the Nashville Symphony play beautifully for him.’ – Gramophone
