Kruger Packaging’s Legacy (CONT’D FROM PAGE 42)
In addition to the Fosber’s capability to run lighter weight grades, Kruger values its safety features, especially as it pertains to roll handling. It doesn’t use clamp trucks or industrial equipment near the corrugator on the operator side; clamp trucks work on the periphery and deliver rolls to a roll-handling system, which in turn delivers them to the corrugator. All of the paper grades, including Kruger’s signature XTR™ 100 percent recycled extra high-performance liner- board and corrugating medium and GreenWhite™ white top linerboard, are sourced from Kruger’s mills in Canada and delivered to Etown via rail. Machinery on the production floor includes four high- speed Bobst machines: two identical DRO die-cutters, an 8.20 Expertline flexo folder gluer that runs at 24,000 box- es an hour, and a 1228 flexo folder gluer. Both die-cutters have IR dryers from JB Machinery. The corrugator interfaces with Kiwiplan for scheduling and the plant uses the suite of Kiwiplan solutions. Coupled with its state-of-the-art equipment, Kruger’s Etown facility is a shining example of how the industry can move toward full automation. Material transport is fully automated from the corrugator to finished goods and integrates a vertical WIP warehouse from WSA-USA. WSA’s contributions included a fully auto- matic material handling system consisting of a Vertical WIP Storage and iFAS Smart Factory Automation System. The
has allowed us to be well connected with independents in the market, especially in the Midwest and Northeast,” he says. With its lightweight, eco-friendly products being a key value proposition to a growing customer base, Kruger’s
Fosber S/Line 110-inch corrugator can run single and dou- blewall board up to 1500 fpm. It runs recycled liners and medium, and mostly 20# and 26# liners, and nothing high- er than a 30# medium. For doublewall, the corrugator runs B/E flute as a replacement for 40# and 44# C flute. Kruger’s Fosber S/Line 110-inch corrugator in Etown can run lightweight, eco-friendly single and doublewall board up to 1500 fpm.
