A Sustainable Future Depends On Innovation BY GREG KISHBAUGH
Resource Label Group Acquires Labelcraft
Resource Label Group (RLG), a full-service provider of label and packaging solutions, including pressure sensitive labels, shrink sleeves, flexible packaging, folding cartons, durable labels, and RFID/NFC technology, has acquired Labelcraft, which operates two loca- tions in Toronto, Canada, and Dallas, Texas.
Digitalization, demographic change and climate change are mega- trends having a significant impact on the transformation of the printing and paper industry. Sustainability plays a central role in this, as well, and will be the central theme of the Touchpoint Sustainability special forum at drupa 2024, taking place May 28 – June 7, 2024 in Düssel- dorf, Germany. With an overview of the industry, various examples of best practice and a diverse stage program, Touchpoint Sustainability will be an in- dependent, company-neutral forum and show what is already possible today, where the industry is heading and that sustainability also makes economic sense for companies.
Labelcraft represents the 31st acquisition for RLG. Since its start in 1967, Labelcraft has been a manufacturer of printed custom pressure sensitive labels, eco-friendly stickers, decals, temporary tattoos, and other products. In 2017, Labelcraft launched a 100 percent recyclable label release liner with the patented Enviro- liner. Since that time, the company has made significant capital investments to expand their capacity and sustainable label offering. “Sustainability is a key part of the Label- craft culture and is critically important to our customers,” stated Brian Tomlinson, CEO and owner. “We chose to partner with Resource Label Group because they share our com- mitment to protecting the environment and desire to expand these solutions to a wider variety of customers.”
The 400 square meter special forum at drupa 2024 will host in- dustry players presenting current solutions and ideas for the future through use cases and a varied stage program. The current challenges and increasing demands from end custom- ers must be met with innovations in mechanical and plant engineer- ing. This can create new business models, reduce energy and material consumption and lower the error rate, according to a new report re- leased from drupa. “In principle, paper and packaging will continue to play a central role in people’s lives,” explained Thomas Schiemann, Managing Direc- tor of the VDMA Printing and Paper Technology Association, who is leading Touchpoint. “However, there is massive pressure for change, driven primarily by two factors: digitalization and sustainability.”
