University Elementary School started out as a K-12 Laboratory School on the Indiana University campus in 1938. Now located down the street from the University, our commitment to academic excellence continues to this day as we serve just over 600 students in preschool through sixth grade. University Elementary is a naturally global school, welcoming students from around the world, who speak a variety of different languages. Our diverse population’s needs are met by all of our exceptional teachers. University is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School. Students engage in six conceptual units of inquiry each year that are collaboratively planned. Students focus on international mindedness and use their agency to make an impact in the local and global community. The MCCSC Elementary Accelerated Learning Program for Students (ALPS) is housed at University and serves MCCSC’s 14 district elementaries. The program is designed to meet the academic, intellectual, and social needs of formally identified high ability students with one class at each grade level, 4-6. We at University Elementary School work together to encourage our students to become inquisitive, reflective learners who value others in an inclusive community and around the world.
