The year flew by in the blink of an eye. There was much to celebrate, with many achievements inside and outside the classroom, including in House competitions. We welcomed 18 new arrivals in Year 9 and one in Year 10 and Year 11. These boys all settled in well, making connections and grasping the routines and expectations of both College and Jacobs House. We also welcomed Charlotte de Roles as our new Deputy Housemaster from the end of Term 3 and farewelled Josh Kim, who was appointed Julius Housemaster. After 10 years at College and eight years in Jacobs, we also farewelled Caroline Black. We were fortunate to be joined by whaˉnau at various school and House functions and events, including quiz night and our combined House Dinner and Prize-giving. The latter was an opportunity to recognise
the boys for their achievements and farewell our Year 13 students, led by Head of House Josh Durant, Deputies Hunter Hartel and Lucas Minehan, and Prefect Finn McCormack-Young. A special and enthusiastic group, the Year 13 cohort achieved a great deal at College. INTERHOUSE EVENTS Athletics Day Jacobs House boys impressed on Athletics Day at Ngaˉ Puna Wai and in lead-up events. Our boys were in fine form on the Thursday, recording top-10 finishes in the 3000m race and 3000m open walk event. U14 3000m
Hunter Hartel 7th Carlos Parker 9th 4x400m Relay Jacobs House 1st House Music The Parents’ Association House Music Festival at the Town Hall featured some impressive performances, with the Jacobs boys preparing for weeks for the whole House song, and the backing band, instrumental group, and small vocal group working hard on their pieces. Led by conductor Angus Whitteker, Jacobs sung You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift, with a few boys delivering their own version of a live music video for extra entertainment and the backing band completing the performance. The instrumental group, featuring Peter Beasley and Oscar Stove (trumpet), Luke Hearne and Josiah Rofe (guitar), Tim Tolerton (bass), Josh Durant (drums), and Will Gifford (piano), delivered a superb version of Just the Two of Us to win the section. House Chess Jacobs House was the runner-up in the interhouse chess competition, beating Corfe House and Richards House before falling to Somes in the final. We farewelled, Angus Whitteker and Arthur Woolhouse, who led the House team over the years. Both received their Colours this year for their contribution to the College chess team. Cross Country Held in Hagley Park, the College cross country featured four age groups covering various distances.
