of personalities, with each boy bringing something special to the table. The enthusiasm of parents mingled with the quiet nerves and bright-eyed excitement of their sons, creating an energy that could only mean one thing: 2024 was shaping up to be a big year. Head of House Will Judd’s guiding principle was encapsulated in one powerful word – ‘brotherhood’. He championed the idea that Richards House was more than just a place to live; it was a family. Will’s plans included activities that encouraged collaboration, mentorship, and camaraderie, ensuring that each boy, whether new or returning, felt he was an integral part of something larger than himself. This ethos would grow stronger as the year progressed. February brought a surge of energy and enthusiasm as the boys threw themselves into the House sports, athletics, and swimming championships. It was a month defined by spirited competition, unwavering support, and a collective determination to make 2024 a year to remember. The camaraderie within Richards House was unmistakable, with boys cheering each other on from the sidelines and encouraging teammates to push their limits. Participation reached new heights, with more boys stepping forward to represent the House than in previous years. This surge of involvement did not just strengthen the team; it showcased the deep sense of pride and unity that had taken root early in the year. In February, summer sports fixtures got under way, with many boys plunging into cricket, athletics, aquatics, and volleyball, to name a few of the many sports on offer.

As always, the year began with energy and purpose, quickly finding its stride as academic and co- curricular activities flourished, each taking on a vibrant life of its own. From the classrooms to the sports fields, and even onto the global stage, the boys of Richards House threw themselves wholeheartedly into every opportunity. March set the tone for a year of relentless activity and achievement. The OBHS Exchange brought out the best in sportsmanship and school pride, while the Maadi Cup demanded grit and teamwork from our rowers, who represented the House with honour. The Summer Sport Tournament provided thrilling moments on the field, and the Mountain Bike Championships challenged endurance and skill against breathtaking, rugged trails. April was marked by intense competition and extraordinary experiences. The Athletics Championships showcased strength and determination as the boys

competed at their peak, while the highly anticipated Rugby Tour to Japan was a highlight of the year. The tour was not just about rugby; it was a cultural exchange, an adventure, and an unforgettable journey that deepened bonds among teammates and created lasting memories. In May, the spotlight turned to the arts, as the senior production came to life with a flurry of rehearsals and stunning performances that left audiences captivated. It was a testament to the talent and dedication of the boys, who excelled both on stage and behind the scenes. Anything Goes Albie Roberts – Fred the Barman and Sailor Construction – Tom Costley and Riki Jones May also featured a heartfelt gathering as the boarding community hosted a combined Mother’s Day Tea, an elegant and warm event celebrating the mothers and mother figures who play such an important role in the boys’ lives.

June struck a harmonious chord with The Big Sing, where voices united in a celebration of music, while the Quad Rugby tournament brought fierce competition and electrifying moments. And who could forget House Music in the Town Hall. Although Richards did not place, the boys could be proud of their efforts this year. July offered a welcome pause – a brief but much-needed break amid the bustling calendar of events. The junior production kicked off and we all anticipated the work put in by Edward Pottinger on stage and the quiet presence of Angus Cotching backstage. The pace picked up in August with the Snow Sports Championships, where the boys showcased incredible skill and bravery on the slopes. Road cycling proved another test of endurance, speed, and tactical brilliance, with participants giving their all. August also brought all the excitement of the REACTION House Play competition.
