In 2024, there were significant leadership changes at College. In addition to the departure of

In July 2024, Richard Rookes retired from the Board. After an open recruitment process, Amanda Johnston, who has a strong corporate and governance background, was appointed to replace him. At the same time, the Board appointed Angus McKenzie, a New York-based Old Boy working for EY in strategy, change management, culture, and talent services, as a Board intern. With the departure of Mr Wynne, the Board focus was on the recruitment of his replacement and the appointment of Gillian Simpson as Interim Executive Principal during Term 3. This took significant time during Term 1 and Term 2. The Board was also focussed on preparations for College’s 175th Anniversary in 2025.

In addition, the Board, working with the Foundation Committee, reviewed the College Foundation’s investment strategy and moved it towards a strategy with a 100- year horizon and a low-fee base. The Board is extremely grateful for the work done by Foundation Committee Chair Johnny Cochrane and independent committee member Simon Botherway. The Advancement Committee, with support from the Board, also worked to develop a campaign focussed on support for scholarships. It will be the focus of Giving Day 2025. Finally, in 2024, Upper West – a project that took nearly a decade to come to completion – was opened.

Garth Wynne and the arrival of Joe Eccleton in December 2024, Hugh Lindo retired after 11 years on the Board, including five years as Chair. Mr Lindo was Chair during significant events in College’s history, including the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care and the Covid-19 pandemic. College thanks Mr Lindo for his tireless work and service. Mr Lindo was succeeded as Chair by Jeremy Johnson, with Gillian Simpson becoming Deputy Chair. College’s Director of Finance & Operations, Rob McFarlane, also advised of his intention to leave at the beginning of 2025. The Board is grateful to Mr McFarlane for his hard work and professional approach throughout his time with College.
