pool play, winning by an average 40-point margin. In the quarter-final against South Island tournament rival Waimea College, Christ’s College won comfortably and then beat defending champion Wellington College in the semi-final. In the final against Napier Boys’ High School, there were 25 lead changes. However, College closed out the match thanks to cool heads and clutch plays. Both Tamatoa Isaac and Ihaka Cate were selected for the tournament team, with Tama also named Tournament MVP. College Senior A was widely regarded as one of the best teams ever produced in Canterbury. REPRESENTATIVES Christ’s College was well-represented at both regional and national levels this year. Tawhiri Cate, Johnny Leeson, Boston Paerata, Joshua Shannahan, Matt McQuillan, Archie Nijjar, Hoani Ifopo-Togia, Truman Heath, Ihaka Cate, and Tamatoa Isaac were all selected for

Canterbury or North Canterbury representative squads, with Tama, Ihaka, and Tawhiri named in New Zealand teams. In the major individual awards, Jack Gorrie was named the Junior Basketball Player of the Year and Tama Isaac was named the Senior Basketball Player of the Year. EVENTS This year, we held several successful events, including the annual Old Boys vs College A clash – a season highlight and great spectacle in the Hickman Gymnasium. We also hosted our first Club Day at the start of the season, with all teams playing at home. The Launch Party and opening night for Senior A drew a big crowd, with hopes this would become a regular fixture. To raise funds for the 2025 USA Tour, the Friends of Basketball hosted an

impressive Art Show, featuring works from celebrated artists, including Old Boys and staff. College basketball also benefitted from the support of many people. Thank you to players and parents for stepping up as coaches, referees, and managers, and to Director of Sport Benn McBrearty and the Sports Office for administration, and Kirsty Howatson and Travis Dixon for organising the Friday and Saturday competitions, respectively. Last, but not least, thank you to the staff who filled a variety of roles, including managing teams, driving minivans, scoring, coaching, encouraging players, and ensuring that games

could be held. Travis Dixon MiC Basketball
