Will Timms displayed some of the best footwork, rugby IQ, and field vision in the team, staying a step ahead of the opposition and impressing under pressure. This year’s Most Valuable Player award goes to Tai Mckenzie. Even when injured, Tai showed up to training and contributed everything he could to the team. On the field, he was constantly motivating the players and leading from the front in superb style. Harry Smith received the Jack Bristed Award for the Best and Fairest Player – always lining up to give it his all and display his remarkable work rate. COLTS A & U15A Manager: Arthur Wood Head Coach: Arthur Wood Coaches: Shun Miyake, Joshua Wood As a coaching group, we wanted to ensure that the players developed their core skills and that they would be able to reflect on a season in which they had fun and had made new friendships. The team trained twice a week and worked hard on developing their run, catch, and pass skills. We also worked on breakdown and tackle technique and developed a simple game plan. The boys always fronted at practices, mostly willing to learn and have fun. The CRFU Metro season started with an extended grading section. We had three wins and two losses. This placed College in Section 1 of the Years 9–10 competition. The highlights were the 34–24 win over CBHS Tui and the 43–0 win against St Bede’s College in the last round. We came up against the CBHS Kahu team in the semi-final. Although we played with commitment and determination, we were well beaten by the eventual grade winner. The season concluded with an extended squad co-hosting the annual South Island Invitational U15 Rugby Tournament in Christchurch. The 10 teams played two games each on the first two days. We lost to Nelson College, 7–36, and Waitaki Boys’ High School, 14–20 on day

one. The next day, we lost to St Andrew’s College, 17–20, and then to King’s High School, 17–19. College then played Rangiora High School in the Bowl Final on the last day. The team put in a great effort and played some of its best rugby to win 24–14 and place 9th overall. It was a great effort and gutsy performance. The tournament was won by Timaru Boys’ High School. As a coaching group, we are pleased with the team’s achievements and we thank the players for their efforts throughout the season. We hope that they have developed as players and, most importantly, enjoyed their season. We believe that they have created a foundation to build on as they grow through the age groups. We would like to thank Stephen Dods, and also Kris Miller for the work and support he has given the rugby club. Thanks must also go to the groundsmen for their hard work to deliver the best fields and facilities. We also would like to acknowledge the various sponsors of College rugby and, finally, the parents who were our greatest and most loyal supporters during the season. Thank you one and all. COLTS B Manager: Keri Campbell Coaches: Ed Peak, Seb Hailey As the 2024 rugby season draws to a close, it is time to reflect on what has been a challenging yet uplifting journey for the U15 boys. Despite a string of tough losses at the end of the season, the spirit and camaraderie of the team have shone brightly. The season began with high hopes and strong enthusiasm. Unfortunately, the competitive landscape proved to be more demanding than anticipated when placed in a higher grade than expected. Our team faced formidable opponents, and despite the best efforts, the scoreboard did not always reflect the true grit and determination shown on the field. The results were never a measure of the hard work and heart that our boys put into every match. Throughout the season, the team

encountered various obstacles but met each challenge with a positive attitude. The players demonstrated incredible resilience, using every setback as an opportunity to learn and grow. Their unwavering support for one another, whether on or off the pitch, created a strong sense of unity that was evident in every game. In practice, the focus remained on improvement and teamwork. The coaches were encouraging and always made an effort to create a positive environment that allowed the players to stay motivated and engaged. The progress that they made as a team, though not always immediately visible in match outcomes, was significant and a promising sign for the future. Our supporters and families also played a crucial role, providing encouragement and enthusiasm that uplifted the team during the tougher moments. The positive energy from our parents and the community contributed to a supportive environment that the players greatly appreciated. The growth, perseverance, and positive attitude of the team are commendable. We look forward to building on these experiences and stepping into the next season with renewed determination and optimism. Thank you to everyone, especially our coaches, Ed and Seb, who have been such a big part of why this journey has still been an enjoyable one for the boys. Thank you all for your support. It has really made a difference.

fellow training partners and mates, the Tuis. This match served as a fresh wind and a massive confidence booster as the playoffs were just around the corner. A setback occurred just before the holiday break, with a loss to the well- organised St Andrew’s College Lions. Yet, after the holidays, the Ravens found their stride once again. They stormed through their next four games, including crucial victories in both the quarter-final and semi- final, overcoming season rival CBHS Lienert-Brown. The season finished with a crushing loss in the division final to a Hornby side who the boys had beaten just weeks earlier. Despite the result, the Ravens had much to celebrate. It was a privilege to coach this team, a group of respectful and engaged young men who consistently gave their all. With a positive attitude both on and off the field, they showed great promise. This group is destined for bigger things in their rugby journeys at College.

beaten College two weeks earlier. Unfortunately, the Hornby boys were too strong. While they did not end on a winning note, the boys could be extremely proud of their efforts and season progress.

a testament to how far the boys had come. The improvement from the beginning of the season was truly remarkable, and the coaches were extremely proud of the team. We all look forward to seeing the boys build on their progress and come back even stronger next season. U75KG Manager: Alex Robertson

Coach: Tim Redfern, Josh Ellingham The U55kg team won its final against St Andrew’s College in an exciting match. The speed and skill of these young players rivalled that of U18-level teams. Their coaches, Tim Redfern, Kane Te Wheoro, and Josh Ellingham deserve recognition for their exceptional work with the players. Seeing these boys perform at their best in the final was a special moment. U55KG MAGPIES Manager: Dominic Morton Coaches: Regan Deere, Jack Evans The 2024 rugby season was one of growth and determination for the Christ College U55kg Magpies. Under the guidance of coaches Regan Deere, Jack Evans, and manager Dominic Morton, the team faced a tough start but demonstrated remarkable resilience and improvement as the season progressed. It began with a mix of experienced players and a few boys who had never played rugby. The first three games were a steep learning curve, and the team conceded more than 150 points. Despite these challenges, the boys never gave up. At each training session, they gave their all, working hard to improve their skills and understanding of the game. As the season progressed, the team’s hard work began to pay off. The boys started to work as a unit, and their performance on the field improved significantly. They became more competitive in their matches, with their teamwork and commitment to one another becoming evident as they started to secure good wins. Their journey led to a semi-final match against a strong St Andrew’s College team. Although College narrowly lost, the performance was

U14 TUIS Manager: Stephen Dods Coaches: George Howard, Daniel Wyber

The Christ’s College U14 Tuis team had a great season. It was the first year that Canterbury Rugby had merged the U14 and U15 grades into a Years 9–10 competition. After some good wins and some tough losses in the grading games, the Tuis were placed in the fifth division along a fellow College team, Ravens. This is when the real work began. Two season highlights were playing the Ravens at Carlton Corner. While the Tuis lost the games, it was the best that the boys had played until that point of the season. This momentum carried through to an impressive game against St Andrew’s College. After a dormant first half, the team was behind. However, a compelling half-time fired up the Tuis and the players scored at will to win 52–29. The boys showed tremendous character and built on earlier strong plays. The Tuis landed in the semi- final against a Hornby team that had

U14 RAVENS Manager: Logan Ball Coaches: Charlie Poulter, Logan Smith

The Ravens kicked off the season with a challenging game against a strong Shirley Boys’ High School team, suffering a tough loss. However, this was just the beginning of what turned out to be a remarkable season for the boys. The team bounced back with determination, winning their next six games. Among these victories was a hard-fought win against their
