SNOWSPORTS TEAM 2024
MiC: Monique Ellis-Martin The 2024 Canterbury Secondary Schools Ski and Snowboard Championships were held at Mt Hutt on Thursday 15 August. The College competitors included 12 ski racers and two snowboarders. It was a clear day with forecast winds. Both snowboarders did their runs before strong winds forced the closure of the mountain, meaning our talented racers missed out. However, snowboarders Oscar Kobayashi and Edward Bodie-Healy finished 1st and 2nd, respectively – an impressive feat. The next day, the boys travelled to Wanaka to compete at the South Island Secondary Schools Ski and Snowboard Championships, keen to defend the slalom title. Eight racers and two snowboarders lined up,

with all completing the tight short course. Both Oscar and Edward again took the honours, finishing 1st and 2nd, respectively, with Oscar recovering quickly after a near crash. In the racing, College again led the charge, with Seb Gray 1st overall and Tomas Coberger 3rd in the giant slalom. Josh Brown took 4th spot to ensure that College retained the championship team title.
