SPECIAL PLAYER RECOGNITIONS
MiC: Jennifer Thomas The 2024 squash season has been filled with remarkable achievements and memorable milestones for our teams. Our B Blue team secured a strong 4th place finish in Division 2, while B Red made an impressive mark with a 2nd place in Division 3. These results reflect the hard work and dedication of our players throughout the season. In July, our boys achieved a major victory by winning the Canterbury Secondary School Team Event, where they won all their matches against strong opposition. This was a moment of pride for the team and a testament to their skill and determination. August marked our debut at the National Squash Tournament. Competing against teams with players ranked several grades higher, our boys rose to the challenge,
demonstrating resilience and playing with great intensity. While it was a tough competition, their performance was commendable. James Bandasak, Ollie Bloy, Maddox Diver, Sam Hales, and Tim Tolerton represented College. A standout achievement came from James Bandasak, who advanced by four grades, an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects his consistent effort and improvement throughout the season. Additionally, our team successfully maintained our 30th place national seeding, showcasing the team’s consistent performance on the national stage. We ended the season with a fun and friendly parents versus sons match. This year, the parents claimed victory, winning in a closely contested series of games that left everyone with smiles and great memories.
Most Improved Junior Player Gus Elworthy deserves a special mention for being the most improved junior player this season. Gus has shown significant development in his game, particularly in his strategies for ball placement, which have made a noticeable difference in his overall performance. MVP (Most Valuable Player) The MVP of the season is Mattias Holmsen, who demonstrated remarkable resilience, diligence, and determination throughout the year. Mattias has shown a deep passion for squash, consistently putting in extra time to hone his skills and never giving up. It has been a truly rewarding season, and we look forward to building on these successes next year. Jennifer Thomas MiC Squash
