College then battled hard against Macleans College for 3rd place. Congratulations to the team on qualifying for the nationals, finishing 4th in its division, and 12th in the country. The boys represented College extremely well and could be very proud of their achievements. The 2024 Christ’s College Table Tennis Club Cup was awarded to Calib Wyness. Calib played table tennis throughout his time at College, including as a member of

the A team for the past four years – a superb accomplishment. His dedication has been appreciated by students, coaches, and staff. Shelly Jackson MiC Table Tennis

MiC: Shelly Jackson It has been a successful 2024 table tennis season, highlighted by individual and team achievements, and the displays of inclusivity and good sportsmanship by the boys each week – both at practice and in matches. We entered five teams in the Christchurch Secondary Schools competition this year, with our top team in the A Grade Open competition. Peter Wu, Calib Wyness, Gordon Wyness, and Leo Kim all featured for the second

consecutive year and enjoyed a great season, making the finals and losing narrowly to Burnside High School. All players have benefitted from the expert guidance of Mike Hamel, who has been coaching at Christ’s College for many years. With numerous South Island and North Island titles to his name, Mike is dedicated to developing young players’ skills and promoting positive sportsmanship. His guidance has been instrumental in the boys’ growth and success. Thanks to Chris Pye and Victor Sue- Tang, who, along with our coach, have supported the boys this season.

Victor took the A team to the New Zealand Secondary Schools Table Tennis Championships for the first time this year. The national event was a highlight for the boys and College was one of only two schools from the South Island competing. The team featured Peter Wu, Leo Kim, Calib Wyness, and Gordon Wyness. On the first day, College had a tough start, placing 3rd in its pool and being put in B grade. The next day was more successful, with College recording a 4–1 win over Hamilton Boys’ High School in the best-of-seven contest.
