Tamatoa Isaac

Junior Sportsman of the Year Will had a standout year in sailing, winning the youth division at the NZ Foiling Waszp Nationals and the Yachting NZ Youth Championships in the 29er class. Representing New Zealand at the Youth World Sailing Championships, he placed 10th, and later finished 9th at the European 29er Championships, earning top overseas team honours. Beyond competition, Will mentors younger sailors, exemplifying leadership and generosity. His dedication and achievements make him a deserving recipient of this award.

Senior Sportsman of the Year Tama excelled in basketball at both national and international levels. As part of the Junior Tall Blacks, he won silver at the FIBA U18 Asia Cup and was named to the All-Star Five at the Oceania Championships. At Christ’s College, Tama led the Senior A Basketball Team to success, earning MVP honours at the U20 nationals and national schools competition. He also excelled at the NBA Basketball Without Borders camp and contributed to the Canterbury Rams’ back-to-back NBL titles. Tama’s leadership and skill make him a worthy co-recipient of this award.

Lui Tupuola

Franklin Barry

NJ Lidstone Cup for Junior Sportsman epitomising the College Virtues Lui represents the College virtues through his athletic talent and character. As a 1st XV rugby player, his humility, respect, and kindness shine – on and off the field. His dedication to excellence extends to athletics, where he is a role model for his peers. Lui’s integrity and compassion uplift those around him, creating a culture of fairness and inclusivity. He is a worthy recipient of the NJ Lidstone Cup.

ZW Gallagher Cup for Senior Sportsman epitomising the College Virtues Franklin embodies the College virtues through his contributions to multiple sports. As a member of the Senior A tennis and 1st XV rugby teams, he demonstrated integrity, respect, and unity. His selflessness was evident when he stepped in for the 1st XI hockey team at the Rankin Cup. Franklin’s humility and kindness inspire his peers, making him a deserving recipient of the ZW Gallagher Cup.

Josh Shannahan

Ali Grigg Diploma Prize for all-round excellence in the Christ's College Diploma Josh exemplifies the principles of the Christ’s College Diploma. He is one of five students in the year group to complete all elements of Ngaˉ Miha Maˉtauranga to a Gold standard. His academic achievements are of the highest standard. It is not just his results, but the manner in which he approaches his studies that sets him apart. He has a 3.99/4 average for academic engagement across the two years. He is active in all parts of the school. A small sample of the activities that have contributed to his Gold Diploma include a Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award, assistant coach to U13 basketball, and volunteering at Harewood School and teaching students to weave flax, as well as completing the Worth Teaching course on becoming a global citizen. Congratulations Josh Shannahan.

Oliver Gormack

Senior Sportsman of the Year Ollie has had an exceptional year in gymnastics, dominating regional and national competitions. He won the all-around and all six individual apparatus titles at the Canterbury Secondary Schools Senior Championships, securing seven U18 Canterbury Champion titles. At the 2024 XP NZ Gymnastics Nationals, Ollie repeated as U18 All Around National Champion, earning three golds, two silvers, and a bronze in apparatus finals. Representing New Zealand at the International Junior Classic further highlighted his talent. His dedication and humility make him a deserving co-recipient of this award.
