PASTORAL CARE Condell’s House
HOUSE EVENTS House Sport
the most of the time with fellow House students and supporting their efforts. It was a lot of fun, even in the challenging steeplechase. House Futsal The junior futsal team beat Rolleston House, 2–0, with Hugo Loughnan scoring both goals. It was a confident team, with standout play by Hugo, Fletcher Harris, George Gorman, and Toby Sharr. It is great to see so many boys keen to be involved. Unfortunately, the team missed out in the second round. The senior futsal team won through to the final. Despite fantastic play and excellent goal-keeping by Paddy Cochran, it lost to Harper House. Fountain of Peace – service project Tania Sharr spoke to the House in February about the work of the Fountain of Peace in Uganda. Her visit followed the Walk With A Purpose fundraiser involving the boys last year. A well was built with the funds. Learning about this accomplishment also encouraged students to be part of the House service group this year. Our first Condell’s quiz night was held in support of the Fountain of Peace. It was led by service group members Jacob Onions, Edward Foote, Nick Sharr, Oscar Compton-Moen, Richard Brown, James Anderson, Charlie Doutch, Duncan Clarkson, Thomas Visakan, Oscar Hsing, Toby Sharr, Jack Fletcher, Kennedy Xiao, Will Matheson, Felix Liu, Jack Hastie, George Greig, Kennedy Xiao, Daniel Zhang, and Nitin Keswani. Raising about $1300, it was a lot of fun as people brought along friends, family, and colleagues too. Many thanks to Olivia Austin for coordinated the event and Tania Sharr for being our link to this charity.
Congratulations to those swimmers selected for finals. Tim Zhao and Harry Reekie won several races in different categories while Jack Hastie, Benji Johnson, and Louis Sharr also did well for the House. Some boys also represented the House in the 3000m run, held in the morning before the swimming sports. Most were involved in the run and the swimming finals or relays that afternoon, including Kingsley Lee, Louis Sharr, Samuel O’Connell, Felipe Felitti-Duter, Jack Hastie, and Richard Brown, along with Nick Sharr who tackled the 3000m walk. We appreciate that they gave up their late Thursday start to compete for the House in both the run and swimming. Harry Reekie enjoyed great success this year, earning his Gold Badge in swimming and travelling to Australia to represent New Zealand. Athletics Day was energetic and busy, with plenty of House success. Tim Zhao won the G.E. Rhodes Prize Cup for the Chapel Choir 400m Handicap, Louis Sharr won the Christ’s College Medal for Javelin Throw, and Jaivan Tuiloma won the Christ's College Medal for Hammer Throw. There was much on the day to celebrate as well. It bodes well to see the House move up to 4th place in field events, due to higher participation. Track events were well-supported as well, with Nick Sharr and Noah Yee – alongside other Year 13 students – busy organisers. It was good to see new students to the House getting involved and those unable to participate because of injury making

It was also an opportunity for the boys in terms of leadership, and working together across the year groups. House Music A huge thank you to the Year 13 students for stepping up to lead House Music and running the rehearsals. In particular, thank you to Nick Sharr for coordinating the groups and sourcing music, and Tom Rawstron, Max Topham, and Noah Yee for bringing the whole song together, working with the boys, and taking on ideas, along with bringing energy and enthusiasm through their leadership. The House performance was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to perform on the Town Hall stage. Congratulations to our Small Vocal Ensemble members, Noah Yee, Albie Anderson, Kennedy Xiao, Richard Brown, and James Anderson, on their win. They sang a fantastic version of Orange Colored Sky , made famous by Nat King Cole. An impressive, polished performance delivered a well-deserved win.
Condell’s House had much to celebrate in 2024, particularly
those events where students could work across year groups as a team. Whether winning these events or not, the camaraderie and fun, as well as learning from each other, are what boys often enjoy the most. Some students stepped up to lead whole House events, underscoring that sense of community and supporting Head of House Nick Sharr. We expect our House to be a place where all students feel welcome, supported, and valued for their contribution. Olivia Austin, Jennifer Thomas, Kirsty Howatson, Matt Cortesi, Robyn McEwan, and Ash Ward have worked hard to create mentor groups that develop relationships across the year groups, as well as adding another layer of pastoral support for students while getting to know each boy.
Thanks also to Archie Whithear, Jack Hastie, Richard Brown, and Tom Rawstron for their fantastic backing for the House Choir and, of course, the talent of our conductor, Noah Yee. It is a lot of extra work for
those involved individually and we appreciate their efforts. Next year, we will lose our Year 13 leaders who have been involved in House Music for some years, so we invite other musicians to step up.
