organization – they know the people in the building, they often know the build- ing itself better than any- one, so educate yourself and keep the relationships strong – that’s at the core. Approach these collabora- tive efforts as a team sport, not a turf war. FMs and IT have the same goals. We need each other to ac- complish these objectives. At ITC we like to get the FM involved early in the design. Often times, the system design is driven by IT, and while it could be a great system it may not fit the needs of the FM. Having everyone working together ultimately creates a system design that will makes ev- eryone’s job easier. FMs who embrace smart technology, building auto- mation, and its nuances, see their businesses reduce
energy costs, have control and ways to keep a facility secure. It’s important to not lose sight of the preventive maintenance but time to also embrace this collabor- ative effort. It’s time to wel- come the data ahead of time to become proactive instead of reactive at the time of a system failure; to make smarter decisions for your facility and occupants; help streamline processes for lighting and control pan- els, etc. - all ultimately mak- ingmore efficient processes for businesses. The IT department, or the experts at Inspired Tech- nology & Communica- tions, don’t have ALL the knowledge. FMs hold a big part of the success for the
