The Beginning

the release of EXO System. Combining our expertise of gear hauling solutions from bike carrying to everything cargo, we engineered a way to free up the vehicle roof and carry more on the hitch. Opening up more opportunities for adventure destinations and the gear needed when you get there.

2020 We’ve seen homegrown versions of this and modifications to our own boxes for years, but never the real deal. In 2020 we introduced a crown jewel for our brand, the CBX Solar cargo box. The integrated solar panel harnesses the sun’s energy while you are driving or parked, and produces 36 watts / 5 volts of power. Taking home the Outdoor Retailer Innovation award in January 2020.

2020 The bike industry is ever evolving and we’ve been a part of it since the 80s. With the increase in popularity around electric bikes, an inherently heavier bike than normal, we got to the drawing board. The answer is OnRamp. The first hitch-mounted, tray style bike rack with a built in ramp for easy loading and unloading.

2019 Just like vehicle trends, we have our ear to the ground of consumer activities. Fishing has been steadily on the rise for a while now but we needed time to learn. So when we were ready, we launched the DoublHaul, enclosed fly rod carrier, TopWater all-rod box, and ReelDeal open-air, all-rod carrier. ROADSHOWER ACQUISITION In this same year we acquired the small but mighty company RoadShower. It was a natural addition to our family of vehicle mounted Base Camp products. Pressurized water storage was now accessible so consumers could expand their horizons.

2019 As the consumer vehicle markets change we must stay nimble. That’s exactly what we did with the release of our three heavy-duty truck racks. When pick-up trucks were on the rise we answered the call with the OverHaul HD, OutPost HD, and BedRock HD. All built rugged and specialized for their activities.

2017 We didn’t invent the rooftop tent, we just borrowed it from our Australian comrades down under. The U.S. market was anything but saturated with the rooftop tent and we brought it to the mainstream. Gone were the days when an extreme 4X4 was needed. Just about any structurally sound vehicle with a roof rack is now capable.

2016 After 35 years of fitting

vehicles the same way, we decided to reinvent the roof rack. The introduction of the StreamLine roof rack system met the needs of modern vehicles with less SKU’s and aerodynamic crossbar options. Thanks to intuitive engineering, all components are loaded with technical advances.

1979 In 1979 Don Banducci and Steve Cole purchased Yakima Industries from a husband and wife apple orchard owner and transformed their orchard ladder racks into kayak racks. The first Yakima roof rack was a pair of golden round bars.
