. Bernice MacNaughton High School - Mme Diotte’s FILA 10 students went on an experiential learning visit on March 26th which, through the use of the “Mon histoire” (My Story) project, provided an authentic second language learning opportunity with French-speaking residents from the Shannex Ocean and Gordon Hall nursing homes. The students had many positive comments about the experience, several stating that they would like to visit again. According to Grace Johnson, the Ocean Hall Recreation Coordinator, the residents of the home loved the activity as well and have been talking about it since! She also added that a resident was so grateful about being able to speak in French that she cried happy tears. It demonstrated the impact that an intergenerational visit can have in benefiting both students and residents. This visit provided an opportunity for experiential and authentic language learning in a meaningful and impactful way.
