The 2012 award-winning projects represent a wide range of topics, from urban green jobs and brownfield redevelopment CitiLog Newark Urban Sawmill) to the first LEED Platinum ® special needs school in the country Center for Lifelong Learning). There’s a network of professionals dedicated to greening NJ schools (NJ Sustainable Schools Consortium) and a forward-thinking affordable housing development RPM’s Grand Central Housing). In addition, BASF Corporation and the Rockefeller Group received special recognition for their commitment to sustainability with their recently completed project in Florham Park, NJ- BASF’s North American headquarters only one of 4 in the US to have received LEED ® Double Platinum certification in this case, one for Core & Shell and another for Commercial Interiors).

Keynote speaker Robert F. Kennedy Jr. addressed the attendees about the importance of curbing our carbon use as a country, and the positive role that USGBC members play in making that a reality. Special guest two-time Olympic gold medalist Carli Lloyd spoke to the award-winners about working to be the best. And finally, as we celebrate USGBC NJ’s 10th Anniversary, we thank and honor the Chapter’s Founding Board Members. Long before “green building” was a buzzword, and LEED was still in its infancy, New Jersey’s founding members were working to create a hub for early green building

professionals. The NJ Chapter, and USGBC in general, have grown so much since then… NJ is the 3rd largest USGBC chapter in the US. USGBC NJ ranks #3 in the country of USGBC Chapters in Education revenue, and #8 in Events revenue for 2010-2011 out of 79 chapters). In 2012 we are reaching a whole new constituency with our green building training courses for NJ veterans and the unemployed, fully funded by a grant from the NJ Department of Labor. In addition, we are a significant contributor to the greening of New Jersey’s schools as core partners in the NJ Sustainable Schools Consortium. Training school facilities managers and staff, municipal employees, and veterans and unemployed in every sector- disseminates the principles and practices of green building far and wide in our great state. We can proudly state that USGBC NJ is helping to transform New Jersey’s built environment into one that is healthier, more water and energy efficient, and truly sustainable. Sincerely,
