n June 1, 2012, ACME opened a new super- market on West Lan- Type of Project: Retail Store, Re-Development Size: 37,000 s/f Submitting Company Type: Engineer/Landscape Architect O caster Avenue in Bryn Mawr. The former Bryn Mawr ACME stood on this site for 55 years and was closed on May 12, 2011 to make way for the new, $14 million, 37,000 s/f store. With 13,000 more s/f than the previous store, additional parking spaces and double the employees, this flagship store proves as a win- win for the owner and the local community. From adding new amenities, to creating a more open, airy floor plan, the com- pany maximized all available space, something vital to success in a densely developed area such as the Main Line. The two townships worked closely together during the planning phase, while Haverford Town- ship took the project through the land development process. As an institution in this neighborhood for over 50 years, the desire to have this new store quickly constructed and opened was one shared by the township, Acme and the local community. n

trees, landscaping and traffic improvements along Lancaster Avenue (State Route 30) with the addition of a new dedicated left- turn lane onto Pennswood Road to help alleviate congestion along this heavily traveled roadway. An extensive stormwater man- agement system was designed which included stormwater qual- ity treatment devices and an un- derground detention basin. The project was previously delayed while ACME waited to acquire the adjacent land where a Jaguar dealership stood. Acquisition of this land eventually allowed for land development and construc- tion of the new store. Throughout the land devel-

opment process, Nave Newell helped ACME ease the concerns of nearby neighbors by coordinat- ing with a Township Ward Com- missioner to schedule multiple meetings to address their con- cerns and develop a layout that was acceptable to Acme, their parent company, Supervalu, and the surrounding neighborhood. Nave Newell prepared various exhibits for these meetings, in- cluding multiple perspective ren- derings to illustrate the proposed ACME on actual photographs of the site. for both its rarity in a tough economic climate and the site challenges posed by significantly expanding the size of the store. Due to the zoning of the site and an access easement on the western side, the back of the building is situated along Lan- caster Avenue with the parking area on the inside of the site. The front of the store faces the main parking area within the site and the main entrance is located off of Pennswood Road. The parcel is also situated within two townships and two counties. While the majority of the site is located in Haverford Township, Delaware County a small portion also lies in Lower Merion Town-
