ousy are the kind of things I recommend to destroy the testimony of any Chris tian.” While it is only a fable, there is much truth to be learned from this. How many worth-while lives have been ruined over just such clever and insidious at tacks. Remember, there is only the dif ference of one letter, changing a ‘Z’ to a ‘J ’, that makes being zealous become jealous. As believers, we are to be zeal ous for the welfare of others, but not to be jealous for things which make them comfortable, and which we covet. The Scripture exhorts us, “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things (or the needs) of others.” SH IN ING MORE BRIGHTLY There was a little boy in a certain neighborhood who got mad at the family next door. When he thought no one was looking he went over to their house and began rubbing as hard as he could on the brass name plate on their door. He was trying to “rub out" the family’s name. He didn’t realize that the harder he rubbed, the name would shine more brightly. This didn’t seem to disturb or ruffle the zealous servant; he went right on. Satan is said to have stepped up and told those who were making fun of the earnest pastor, “Gentlemen, you’re entirely too crude. I f you want to de stroy a believer like this, it will have to be done in a more subtle manner. Here, let me show you.” With that, he stepped up to whisper something in the minister’s ear. Where ridicule had failed, Satan was successful. What had he told the enthusiastic preacher? He injected slyly, “Word has just been received that your younger brother has been called as pastor of one of this city’s largest churches, and at a salary twice as much as yours.” A scowl of jealousy crossed the pastor’s face as he felt inward pangs of envy and anger. He stopped preach ing to think about why his brother should have gotten the position instead of himself. With that the devil an nounced to the crowd, “Envy and jeal
