Masterpiece Cane Auction 2026

61. Siam Horn Sword Cane

Ca. 1890 This cane features an oversized Siam horn handle carved from a single piece of selected, dense material. It is shaped in a simple L-form, with a plain hori- zontal handrest and a knobby vertical part for a better, more secure, non-slip grip. The polished surface reveals a rich blend of dark and light browns, with subtle greenish undertones, hallmarks of the finest examples of this material. It comes on a plain malacca shaft with a finely chased, gilt collar and a mighty iron ferrule. A small button discreetly disguised as a screw top with a slit releases a locking mechanism, allowing a 17” blade to slide out in a straight pull. The blade is diamond-shaped, and its smooth surface highlights a perfect linear taper that culminates in an impressive pointed tip. Slightly larger, longer, and heavier than comparable blades, it provides greater security in the hand. The perfect balance between the handle and the blade is notable, an essential requirement for a defensive weapon rarely achieved in such a way. Although weathered by exposure to the elements, the blade still shows remnants of blued scrolls and other faint decorations, as well as a patina that offers a tactile, sensual feel. This cane exemplifies discreet defense, with its unassuming profile masterfully concealing its true nature. Its well-preserved original condition and matured surface add to its charm and authenticity. In any case, it presents a compelling argument in a moment of sudden conflict. Blending luxury, expert craftsmanship, and hidden lethality, this piece hails from the legendary French St. Etienne production. H. 4 ¾” x 3 ¼”, O.L. 34 ¼”

Buffalo Horns are permanent, pointed projections on the head that consist of a covering of keratin and other proteins surrounding a core of live bone. Horns are distinct from antlers, which are not permanent. The horns start to grow up and out and are fully formed when the buffalo reaches the age of five or six years. Breeding, genetics, and environment influence color variations, with black being the most common and marbled tones showing rich hues as the most desirable. Siam horn refers to a fine-grained, translucent horn with green- ish tints, considered the ultimate quality of all horns, originating from that part of the world.
