It is this happy and intimate connection of our Band work with the recognized mission work of the district that saves it from being a mere transient effort, and gives it solidity and permanence. It was this same Band No. 4 that was driven out of the field then being worked at the time of the civil war. The missionary of that district now * writes me: “ For some time I have been wishing to write you about the Band of your men which was here a year or more ago. It seems probable that the men could now do their work in safety, and would find the people ready to re­ ceive them. I should be very thankful if you could send me one or more of your Bands to this neighborhood to work around our three districts as there are many places in this circuit and just around it that have not been visited. THE HUNAN WORK “ Idols Being Burned Every Day” T HIS stirring sentence was in a let­ ter recently received from Mr. Ou- Yang, leader of Band No. 4, a let­ ter just overflowing with joyful en­ thusiasm as he told me how God was blessing His Word as they preached it in that new district. A few days after that letter came to hand, the English missionary in whose district Band No. 4 is now working came to Changsha to attend the annual meet­ ing of his mission. When we met he said to me: “ I have been wanting to write and tell you about the work of Band No. 4. It is the most wonderful work I have ever seen. It is literally true that they ‘Preach the Gospel to every creature’ in the fields where they work. Their zeal and thoroughness simply amaze me.” ' Then this missionary went on to tell me how frequently he visited the Band, of his helpful conferences with the leader, and of his meeting, examining and organizing the new converts into prayer and Bible study groups definite­
